The place is very nice, the bar has many drink options, and the atmosphere and service were the best. If you have the opportunity to go, do it, you won't regret it. The food, especially the burgers, is delicious.

Visited Five on Black Kitchen & Spirit House with my daughter. This is Mitchell Murphree's third spot in Murfreesboro, and he did an exceptional job with this place.

First off...the ambiance PLUS the upper and patio outdoor seating make for a wonderful evening if the weather is right. We sat out on the patio, and it was a beautiful night. They have an extensive bar, wine, beer, and specialty drink list along with flights of different spirits should you want to sample bourbons or tequilas. The evening started with Potato Taco's...this dish is a home run!!! You get three tacos filled with seasoned mashed Yukon Gold potatoes, Crema, Cabbage, Pico, Salsa Verde and Queso Fresco. Now while there is a lot going on, this dish is awesome and makes you yearn for a second helping! The menu is not overwhelming but covers pretty much everything you might want...just not in 50 different varieties. I went with the Pan Con Bistec Cuban Steak Sandwich with fries, and my daughter went with the Black Bean Burger with fries. The steak sandwich is flavorful, tender, and the Cubano style roll with the crusty exterior really put this sandwich over the top. While I'm not a bean burger person I did try a bite, and it was tasty. My daughter enjoyed it and liked it was not spicy and the garlic aioli on the side was a great compliment. My daughter loved the fries, for me not so much as they were too salty for me. Our server Emma was awesome and took great care of us. This spot offers great food and service in a nice location!

We celebrated a birthday at 5 on Black, and it was fantastic! The staff went above and beyond bumping up the kids’ orders after they arrived late from a soccer tournament. Such a thoughtful and kind team. Great food, friendly service, and a perfect place for a celebration!

This restaurant is amazing! The food is delicious and the customer service was more than a cherry on top. My husband and I both really enjoyed the food. I had the shrimp and he had the chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious!We had Jason as our server and he was fantastic! His bubbly personality and silly side comment really made the night for us. he even made us honey mustard from scratch. I went on my birthday, so he went the extra mile to even give me stickers for my birthday! I have absolutely no complaints and definitely have intentions of coming back. What a wonderful little spot!

Edit: We visited again today and received the worst service I’ve ever gotten at a restaurant. Extremely disappointed and will not return. Our reservations for the dining room were not honored and we were sat with a server who seemed to be intoxicated. Horrible service and water spilled on us with no apology and waited way too long only to received incorrect items. I really liked this place but don’t see us returning due to this experience.

The five on fire burger was unique and tasted great. The fries and fried plantains were great. The banana pudding and “bookie” cookie were a great finish. Our server, Jason, was very personable and funny. Also, the music and environment made it a great experience.

Jason A. Did a fabulous job! Kept up laughing, drink full and was the best photographer for our group (7). Came for my grandmas birthday. He brought candles and sparklers for her desert. Loved all the food we got (Five on fire, pit boss, shrimp, and of course dessert - bookie)!

Great experience and fun atmosphere with inventive food options. The Five on Fire burger tasted good and the novelty of having a flaming burger is fun, not sure i would order it again. If I was to order it again, I would consider removing the top bun so the gravy is poured over the burger and cheese (leaving the bun more manageable). The dessert was a different experience and would order that again without question. We will definitely go back.

Fabulous experience! Excellent food selections, taste, and portions. Jason Allen is the best server ever. We were very appreciative of his culinary knowledge, his authenticity, his humor, and the dedication and loyalty to the restaurant. Everything was impressive . We enjoyed our time there and we have been talking about it for 2 days. We travel a lot and have eaten at the best restaurants across the country. Five on Black is definitely a 5 Star. In fact, it goes above and beyond !!
