Management and servers were kind and attentive. Food was typical and average for a Mexican restaurant. There was loud music playing in the kitchen that drowned out the TVs and conversation in the dining room, and they were also vacuuming loudly in the kitchen and dining room during our visit.

Called to order my food and described what I wanted, the guy taking the order acted confused and was difficult to talk too. I ordered the kids burrito and told them I only wanted rice and beans on it. My order was the tacos pastor. To start, my tacos were so dry it literally felt like they let leftovers sit out from the night before and reheated it in a microwave until the meat was literally dry. BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING the kids burrito I ordered for my son literally got him SO SICK that he puked it up!! Messing up an order is one thing but getting my KID sick from your food to the point that he’s vomiting is unacceptable! He puked up that burrito and felt better instantly.

The so called manager named Benji is so disrespectful to customers and his own workers. I cannot believe that this establishment is okay with his behavior. I will not be back ever. I feel bad for his own workers and I hope that they get treated better someday.

My biggest issue with this restaurant is it's costly. I got a birria dish didn't come with rice or beans no sides. So I asked for rice beans sour cream Pico. Birrias were $14 by the time got my extras with tip it went to $32. Not worth it .

Hawaiian bowl. This is something I've never had anywhere and includes shrimp, chicken, steak, pineapples, rice and beans. It's always fresh and always good. Matt around like an odd combination but it is delicious.

Restaurantji Recommends
We eat at all 3 locations and we usually eat at one or the other a couple times a week. We have Never had a bad meal there. We definitely recommend each location. 😋
This is one of my favorite restaurants near my house! They have the best birria tacos, and I get them all the time! My friends and I love to come grab food here. Service is always great as well!

A True East TN Local’s Take: El Jinete in Powell Still Delivers
My husband and I have lived in East Tennessee our whole lives, and El Jinete in Powell is one of our go-to spots—we’re there all the time. For dinner the other night, I ordered the birria tacos with beans and rice.
Those birria tacos are chef’s kiss 🤌🏼every single time. The beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender, the consomé is rich and perfect for dipping (or sipping, no shame), and the tortillas get that crispy edge from the broth. The beans and rice? Simple, well-seasoned, and the ideal balance to all that flavor.
We’re also obsessed with the quesadilla loca with chorizo—loaded with bacon, chicken or steak, and of course we add chorizo! Come hungry because it is a huge portion with enough to share! The pollo Toluca, which nails that grilled chicken with chorizo, and melted cheese combo. It’s comfort food done right.
The place is always buzzing at dinner, but the staff keeps it moving—chips come out hot, salsa’s got kick, and you never feel forgotten. It’s in a strip mall, sure, but inside? Feels like a legit taqueria with heart.
Verdict from two lifelong East TN regulars: El Jinete’s birria tacos, beans, and rice hit the spot, but the quesadilla loca with chorizo and pollo Toluca are our ride-or-die faves. If you know, you know. 4.5 stars. 🌮🔥

Always a great experience when we go! We bring friends and family all the time to check it out and everyone loves it! Food is great and pretty fast service as well.
Our first visit. We had chicken mole enchiladas and birria tacos. Both were delicious 🤤. The mole has a good flavor and a little sweet. The birria tacos were moist and filled. Served with consomé, sauce, cilantro and onions 🧅. 😜
