Great lil place, best catfish had around here.
Such a great atmosphere and so neat seeing the various antiques as you eat. They also have what looks to be a fantastic salad bar. I had a patty melt and my husband had a burger. We shared fried okra. All of it was delicious and filling. We will be back to try other dishes.
Great place to eat love the turkey and dressing
Food was excellent served in a pleasant atmosphere Wish I had asked name of waitress as she was fantastic!
What a quaint cafe on the square in Shelbyville! You’ll feel Iike you’ve stepped into the movie set of Steel Magnolias. We were seated quickly by our friendly waitress. I had the special; chicken & dressing with okra and Mac-n-cheese. My husband had the pork chops. Our food came out quickly and was hot. Great home cooking plus they have bingo on Monday & Thursday evenings. If you decide to play make sure you reserve a table; it fills up quickly
Laid back cafe with nice paintings on the walls, great food, and friendly service.
I was quite pleased with this cafe on the square in “downtown” Shelbyville. The menu had quite a bit to choose from, but not overkill. I had opted for breakfast during lunch. I was a bit disappointed in the chicken fried chicken because it was essentially a frozen fried breast made for sandwiches. Everything else was super delightful. The pancake was fluffy, along with the homemade biscuits. The hashbrowns were fresh and cooked extra crispy. I love the story behind how to current restaurant came about. The service was as good as you could get. Happy, eager to serve employees made for a great visit.
My husband and I went in, and he got a cheeseburger, and I got the patty melt.
NO FLAVOR! His bun was bigger than the meat.
The meat on my patty was cut 4 ways. The fries were decent but not great.
The sodas tasted flat, but the waitress was friendly. Yes, I did inform the waitress of the issue.
We hadn't been in years and probably won't return.
Charming place to look at. It’s still the comfy diner it has always been. We stopped in for breakfast and were sorely disappointed. I asked for dry wheat toast, asking specifically that there be no butter or margarine on my toast. What I got was wheat bread that had barely been warmed. It was literally floppy and it had butter or margarine on it. I asked before ordering if the gravy was sausage gravy, the adorable young waitress assured me it was. It was not. What I received, rather than sausage gravy, was cold, flavorless flour and water paste. I used a lot of salt and managed to eat some of the paste with the soft untoasted crusts of my bread.
My husband ordered coffee which came cold and wheat toast with gravy. His toast was actually toasted but was white bread. His gravy was as dissatisfying as mine. His eggs and bacon were good.
We will not return to Popes for breakfast.
A super cute place on Shelbyville square with down home cooking breakfast items.

All around, it's a 3 star experience. Not good, not bad. Food is okay and the service is okay. Just a very mid experience.
I really loved getting to eat here today yall with my family the service was great and the food was even better, I had me a chicken tenders dinner with 4 tenders, fries and some good ol Dr. Pepper thank yall for the amazing service and food keep up the great work guys and God bless you!
The first time there, we sat at the counter. The waitress acknowledged us but then waited on the regulars that came in after us. Took our order and then gave drinks to everyone else before us. We waited 15 minutes before we got a cup of coffee. We ordered pie, it was cold and hard, and the microwave was broken 🙃. We will not return. we really need more staff to take care of people's needs.
The food was perfect and the service was excellent! Highly recommend popes cafe
The salad bar is incredible there, and the open faced Roast Beef Sandwich is my favorite entree. The desserts are to die for.
