Marioochi’s Pizzeria On The Square

Found this gem while visiting Sparta. Decore is warm with photos/ relics from past eras. Staff are friendly and helpful. They have a comprehensive italian menu, including appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and pastas, but their wood-fire pizza is the star. Our favorite was the Marioochi, but we shared several and enjoyed all. Highly recommend!

I’m from Massachusetts where we’re known for our Italian food. We expected the pizza here would be good for the south but not up to our standards… nope. It was actually amazing. It tastes real and their red sauce pizzas are amazing. I asked the waiter if they have live music. Sounds like it’s kind of rare but they should have it more often, I’d be there daily.

Edit: Just came from Italy. We had a friend visiting and wanted to go to Marioochi’s. Still amazing pizza even compared to really good Italian pizza. Go here, you won't regret it.

Our absolute favorite restaurant in the area. Everything about this place is top notch.

The best pizza I've ever ate

My husband and I finally made it to Marioochi’s in Sparta, and we’re so glad we did! We were greeted right away by a friendly hostess and offered the choice to wait 20 minutes for a table or sit immediately at the bar. We chose the bar—and it was perfect.

The first thing I noticed was the peaceful atmosphere—no TVs in sight, which made for a relaxing dining experience. The open view of the brick oven was such a nice touch, and the remodel is absolutely beautiful. I couldn’t help but snap a few photos!

Our bartender/server, Andy, was fantastic—he gave us a little history of the place, offered great menu suggestions, and made us feel like we were his only guests. We shared the spinach dip and each ordered a pizza (which made amazing leftovers!). The food was delicious and came out fast—thanks to that high-heat brick oven.

We can’t wait to come back and try the calzones next time. Highly recommend checking this place out!

I don’t have any feedback about the food or service yet as we were unable to dine when we went tonight, however we were greeted with a sincere apology from the hostess that they were unfortunately not seating any more customers due to the storms rolling in. We’re set to get potentially very hazardous weather tonight and I was very impressed that they are looking out for their employees and willing to close early for their safety. We’ll definitely be back to check out the food at a later date!

I have been here several times and really enjoy the authentic Italian food. I’m glad to see that they are now introducing pasta to the menu. I have tried both the spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs, and the lasagna. Both were very good. The pasta dishes are a tad pricey, especially for this area, but the food is very good. Today for the first time, I tried a new pasta dish, Penny pasta and chicken with Alfredo sauce. I found it a little bit bland. It needed more salt, more spices, more garlic, and more Alfredo sauce. The chicken was also quite bland. However, I ate more than half of it. Then I got some extra sauce from the waitress and added some salt and pepper and red pepper and it ended up being pretty good. The salad with the House vinaigrette dressing is always excellent. So other than I think their newest dish needs to be spiced up a little bit, everything else was still very good. Still highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely amazing pizza! We stopped by chance traveling back home to East TN. Best wood fired pizza I have ever eaten. Highly recommend! We will be back again as we travel.

We got a meat pizza had very little meat , was way too salty had no pizza sauce and when I asked for some they charged us for a tiny little cup $22 was not worth it

This restaurant is AMAZING! The food is delicious and the service is always top notice. Such a classy place. When we visit Sparta we always try to stop by for lunch or dinner. Thank you for providing this gem.

Oh, and the coffee shop next door and the specialty cheese shop around the corner are a must to visit as well! 😉
