It's not TexMex, it's royal, royal seasoning from northern Mexico, exquisite, we loved it! I have a new favorite Mexican place!!!

We were seated by the host at the front. Once we got to the table, a waitress was taking our drink order. But suddenly, the host took over and was our waiter. Never came by to offer me a refill and he was back to working the host duties at the front of the building. I ordered a kids chicken fajita taco for my son and got the steak fajita taco. We came to see mariachi and purposely arrived later in the day but there was none. I've been here several times before but this is the first time the service has been off.

Checked out El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant on S. Cooper St. recently (it’s in the old Buck n Loons spot), and it was a cool experience! This place feels different from the usual Tex-Mex you find around here—more authentic, with traditional Mexican dishes front and center. They do have a few Tex-Mex items, but it’s mostly real-deal Mexican food.
Our menu was in Spanish, but that didn’t cause any issues. The server was super friendly and took the time to explain different options and make recommendations based on what we liked. Definitely helpful if you’re trying to branch out with new dishes.
The vibe inside was actually awesome! Lots of stone and wood, giving it this cozy, rustic look. It almost felt like a little cabin, which is great for a laid-back meal with friends.
The food was good—solid flavors and something different from the usual, even if it wasn’t mind-blowing. Prices weren’t bad at all, either. For anyone interested in trying something new or getting a taste of traditional Mexican flavors, I’d say give it a shot. I’ll probably be back sometime with friends to try other things on the menu!

El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant – A Cozy Spot for Traditional Mexican Fare
We recently had the chance to try El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant on S. Cooper St., located in the former Buck n Loons building. This restaurant brings a refreshing, more authentic take on Mexican cuisine, making it a nice change of pace from the usual Tex-Mex options we often see in the area. While they do offer a few Tex-Mex dishes, the focus here is definitely on traditional Mexican fare.
Our menu was in Spanish, but that didn’t pose any problems. Our server was friendly and went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable, taking the time to ask about our preferences and making thoughtful recommendations. It added a personal touch to the experience, which we appreciated.
The food itself was flavorful and well-prepared, highlighting the classic ingredients and techniques you would expect from traditional Mexican cooking. While it may not be what everyone is used to, for those looking to expand their palate or try something new, it’s a solid option. The portion sizes were just right, and we left feeling satisfied.
The interior also deserves a mention – it has a charming, rustic vibe with lots of stonework and timber beams, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. It feels cozy, like a little cabin retreat, which made our dining experience that much more enjoyable.
As for the prices, they seemed fair for the area and in line with what you’d expect from similar spots. We’re glad we gave it a try and look forward to returning to explore more of the menu in the future.

I've been eating at Ranchitos since I was a child. 45 years later I am still eating at this establishment only instead of Oak Cliff this time the Arlington location. As always, I left with a smile on my face and my belly filled.
