We were passing by and thought we'd give it a shot. Located in a quaint 1880 building with high ceilings, the service was very nice. Contrary to some reviews, my chicken fried steak was not tough, nor was it too salty. It was a bit bland, but i like a lot of garlic on mine.. The side salad was big and fresh. The onion rings were a little too greasy. The wife liked her loaded potato and fried shrimp. The tea was good on a hot day. Overall, good, not great. Would I return? Yes.
delicious!!! sweet lady behind the counter.
We decided to stop here for lunch when this restaurant popped up on Google Maps while we were traveling from Fort Worth to Odessa. It's in downtown Baird, Texas just a little off of I-20. East toxins and get to. Was greeted and seated almost immediately by the hostess. Our waitress showed up at the table just a minute later asking about our drinks and dropping off the menus. They offer a pretty good variety for a small diner. She mentioned a special for the day of a 6 ounce ribeye with a half of a baked potato, steamed broccoli, trip to the salad bar, and dessert. We ordered that with sides of green beans and onion rings, cause you gotta try the onion rings, right? The bowls for the salad bar were HUGE! Was a decent bar with fresh choices and what I can only assume were house dressings. Meal came out just as we sat down with our salads. Ribeye and baked potato were small, as we expected for a lunch special, still hot, and well seasoned. Sides were a bit larger and just as tasty. Waitress was friendly, competent, and attentive without hovering, took very good care of us. As we were finishing our meal, she asked if we were ready for desert, two small brownies with ice cream. Was really good. Even with the smaller portions, we still took home quite a bit of food. This appeared to be a family business, with everyone pitching in somewhere. A very pleasant and relaxing meal. We were really hoping to eat at Allen's Family Measl in Sweetwater this trip, but they were closed for vacation. Circa 1880 was a pleasant substitute. Glad we made this choice.
Went here for dinner with my parents. Waitress was nice. I got cheese sticks, fries, a coke, and a cheddar bacon ranch burger. Cheese sticks were spectacular and huge. Fries were handcut and soggy but seasoned well just needs work on the cooking. Burger was huge couldn't eat it all but delicious. The burger was served on Texas toast instead of a bun and it was very greasy but I loved it. My mum ordered the chicken fried steak. I tried some it was disgusting. Too salty and meat was incredibly tough. Fried okra was good. Dad ordered beer battered fish I tried it and it was great. Dad said the cocktail sauce had an odd clove flavor. As we were leaving my dad complained to the cashier at the front about the chicken fry steak. She had an attitude and said "We don't use salt on any of our food, how could it be overly salty?" I do NOT know what she meant by that because almost all food requires salt, even dessert, as it offsets the sweetness. Every good food has salt, everyone with common sense, even a home cook/beginner KNOWS to salt their food. Food was great except the chicken fry steak it is overhyped. Waitress service was nice, except the cashier had an attitude. Would go back here but never getting the chicken fried steak here!
Thursdays are catfish special day and it is beyond outstanding! The chicken fried steak is the best I’ve had anywhere, including Mary’s and The Smokestack! Servers are friendly and very helpful. Just do not be in a hurry, regardless of the time of day, but it is worth the wait! Bring something to read and get ready for some really “good eats”!
Hand cut. Fresh made. All delicious! We stopped coming home from a college football game in Abilene. Easy on and off highway on way back to dfw. Neat old building as well
I had the chicken fried steak and it was about the best I've had anywhere. The service was great but I ordered too much because I also ordered the jalapenos and the helping was to large for me but they sure were good. I had a dip of ice cream to finish up the meal and left over fed and happy. No kidding that chicken fry is just great!
The staff was great, very attentive. Good food, friendly chef/cook. Yummy green beans! "Secret recipe"! Looks like a nice, family run operation.
We had a bad experience her back in February. We took family there to eat and our food was not good. My husband had Cf steak sandwich and the meat was literally frozen. Our cheese sticks were so gooey we couldn’t eat them. I asked for hamburger steak to be well done, it was bloody inside and way too salty. Couldn’t eat it. Our cousin got the steak and couldn’t eat it, too much grissle and too salty. He didn’t eat it. We never got our salads. Service was horrible. We might have sent stuff back but it would be forever to get it back. We just didn’t eat our food. We decided not to ever go back.
The restaurant was very cute and nicely decorated. The service was good. The food was very good. Burger with sourdough bread was great. My husband said the club was the best he’s ever had. The fresh cut fries were great. The beer battered onion rings were good but a little greasy.

GREAT little place, or the only place in Baird....and they have good food at a good price, BUT THEY WAY OVERSEASON THEIR BURGERS AND STEAKS....TO THE POINT THAT ITS ALMOST INEDIBLE. Just ask for NO SEASONING, and add your own. I forgot from my last visit and had a steak special that was so salty/seasoned that that was all I could taste. They have good service and I'll be back, BUT I will remember to order my entree UNSEASONED....John
First of all, the owners treat you like family and are always asking about your loved ones. Second, they are always preparing fresh donuts, kolaches, and other amazing pastries. People come from other towns, because are that good! Do yourself a favor, and grab a great donut.
First. The owners are the nicest people. Second. Their donuts are the best! People come from other towns just to get their amazing donuts and kolaches! So glad to have them in Baird!

Interesting old building makes for a fun atmosphere. Food is home cooking at its best ... one of the best simple good homemade hamburgers you will find, and be sure and check out the daily specials, they are always worth it ... and all at fair prices. And don't forget the oven fresh desserts. Also there is no need to be in a hurry. This is a relaxed country atmosphere if there ever was one. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Go often, and eat a lot!
