This used to be one of our favorite “go-to” places for a weeknight dinner out- consistent quality and service and a nice menu. Our recent experience, however, was so sub par and so expensive that we won’t be going back. The stand-out of the dinner was the velvety gazpacho. We each had a bowl and agreed that it js very delicious. But it was served without bread or a single crouton. When we asked for bread, we were given some very hard crostini on a plate with a few olives and a little sardine tapenade. For appetizers, the octopus was meh- little flavor and rubbery. We also had the salmon belly ceviche which had no business being called a ceviche- it was chopped cooked salmon with herbs. I don’t really know what it was. We shared the paella for our entree. It was a let down, especially at that price. The chicken pieces were tasty and tender but the seafood and rice were mushy. Maybe they were just having a bad night, but at over $100 per person, there are just too many good places in Houston to eat to risk going back to find out.

We visited for the first time and everything was truly delicious, which is why we decided to return. On our second visit, we ordered different dishes. I ordered the pork, not realizing it was cooked in its own juices. Unfortunately, I personally prefer stronger flavors, so it wasn't to my taste. I didn't mention anything at the time. When we ordered the Manchego cheesecake, we tasted it and, again, it wasn't something I enjoyed. I shared this with our waiter, who was very kind and said he would speak with the manager to see if the dessert could be removed from the bill since we had only tasted it. However, the manager chose not to accommodate the request. For me, this made the experience disappointing. Even though removing the dessert wouldn't have changed the fact that I didn't enjoy the new dishes I tried, it would have shown a willingness to make the situation better and might have encouraged me to try something else or return in the future.
The main drawback of my visit to Costa Brava was the pricing. For a bistro-style restaurant, the overall cost felt higher than expected. Several items, including bottled water, coffee, desserts, and other add-ons, were priced unusually little high, and the final bill came to approximately $120 per person. For this type of dining experience, my expectation was closer to about 20% less.
That said, there were many positive aspects to the experience. The food was good and flavorful, with well-executed dishes and appropriately sized portions. The menu offers a solid variety, making it easy to find appealing options.
The service was excellent: attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the visit. The atmosphere was pleasant and inviting, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a relaxed lunch. Overall, aside from the pricing, it is a good restaurant and a nice option to visit from time to time.

I have had the pleasure of dining at Michelin-starred establishments in Houston, and I must say, the cuisine here is truly exceptional. It was absolutely delicious. Angel's service, in particular, was the finest I have experienced to date. Thank you very much.

Costa Brava Bistro is a beautiful serene retreat in a busy big city. The staff is attentive but not overbearing, the drinks from the gorgeous bar are delicious and the food is impeccable. Try the red snapper! Perfection! You will love this place and find yourself looking for reasons to return.
Never misses. One of our favorites. I can make a meal of the duck confit appetizer. Just amazing always.
