1st, I wanted to state that I usually eat here every couple of weeks, either pick up or dine in with my kids. I order water and always get water with the same hostess every time and I always tip Even though you order and pay at the counter.
This past experience was by far the most rude and disrespectful experience I have experienced in a restaurant setting.
My parents were visiting from out of town and I wanted to take the some were with the kids that had familiar menu. We ordered at the counter like normal. When my mom and I went to get water, she asked me if it tasted weird, so I tried it and it tasted like bleach (as if they cleaned the machine but didn't flush it completely). We both dumped it out and with her getting a kids meal, she got a drink so she switched to 7up. I got tea in my baby water glass.
When the hostess brought out food she said it in front of everyone in the restaurant that I got a drink and not water so I had to pay for a drink before I left. I explained to her that the water taste bad and I don't feel comfortable drinking it. She refused to acknowledge the water concerned and just kept repeating herself. Causing a scene over their inability to offer decent drinking water and a 35 cent glass of tea.
So, after I ate my meal, I went up to the counter to pay for the 10oz of tea. It was $2.25. I asked her to taste the water herself and that i wasn't trying to get a free tea after spending $70 on the meal. Her response was that she would notify the water authority as she gave me my change.
I have never left a dinning experience more embarrassed. My parents were beside themselves. They asked me if this is how people get treated in Texas.
Based on her actions and response to the situation, they do not value their customers. Refusing to listen to the concerns of customers and wanting to call them out in the rudest way possible over a 35 cent tea, is a easy way to loose my business, especially when the food is mediocre at best.
The only plus was that it was convenient. But after being treated like I stole something in front of my parents and children as well as the rest of the restaurant. I will gladly spend my time and money with a business that values it.

Flying all day leaves you hungry and tired. We knew we needed to stop and get a bite to eat but being new to the DFW metroplex we just stopped at the closest restaurant on the map. That is how we ended up at the Lone Star Grill in Benbrook TX A quick review showed overall 4.9 stars so I tried to not judge the book by its cover. Once inside we realized this is a comfort food down home cooking place. Plenty of choices for everyone. We settled on a Cayenne Chicken sandwich with/fries and a Swiss and Mushroom cheeseburger w/onion rings. Oh and a side of coleslaw. Now the fun begins, because you can’t help but notice the TX decor, metal stars, antlers, stuffed deer heads etc. however you also notice the worn out ceiling tiles. Then the food arrives!! Platters overflowing with amazing sandwiches, crispy onion rings, and crunchy fires (just how I like them). We saw a couple sharing a delicious looking piece of cream pie as we enjoyed our meal and asked for a box to go. On the way out the family of 4 who were the cooks and staff sat together eating a meal, they must have been very busy and finally had a chance to sit. If you want fancy decor then keep moving but if you want a meal that is as good as it looks, this is the place. I am still wondering how good the pinto beans are….next time.

The family and I ate here tonight for the first time.
The boy had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Plus a side of sweet potato fries.
The woman had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and carrots.
I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries.
The woman said the carrots were the best she ever had. Cooked perfectly and sweet tasting.
They both enjoyed the chicken fried steak and potatoes.
My burger was most delicious and quite juicy. Several napkins required.
The fried potatoes were perfect and a generous portion as well.
The only complaint was the ice tea my woman had. She traded that in for a root beer that she said was delicious.
It’s a small old hole in the wall type restaurant and it held true to us that this is exactly the kind of place to come if you’re looking for some comfort food in an old timey setting. Bravo…..

Good food, good price. Preparers need to wear gloves instead of using bare hands to garnish burgers and other dishes. You would think COVID taught us better.

We had chicken fried steak which was okay but not great. Portions are large and plenty of gravy. The restrooms I could smell a few feet from the restroom door. Must be a plumbing problem because Ladies room was pretty clean. Service excellent.

You can't really rate a place if you never ate there, but I clicked on it for service. We are out of town for our grandson's baseball tournament and wanted to eat after the game. It was 10:30 and said they opened at 11. We decided to wait and check it out yet it looked like no o e showed up for work. Blinds drawn, lights off, no cars. I'm like, surely someone is here prepping food. Nope! They came speeding through the parking lot and parked up front on the corner. An older gentleman got out of the car then a younger one and a young lady. The lit up open sign came on automatically at 11 which they promptly turned off. We sat debating on whether we should stay to see if they really opened but finally decided to go elsewhere. I figured if no one shows up until after the doors should be open, then everything would either not be ready, they would things in a hurry, and basically half ass, or not cooked at all. Other scenario would be everything was leftovers and they would try to pass it off. Not impressed and never went in.
