We will be back! Loved the chicken and waffle. Everything was so good, and the service was great. Also, we loved the stained glass artwork hanging from the windows.

I highly recommend the cowboy breakfast. The chicken fried steak is tender and crispy, the home fries are great with over medium eggs. We'll be back for sure!

Service was good. The play was packed. The food was ok. They chicken fried chicken could have had more seasoning. The California club chicken wrap was on the dry side. Chips were a little on the stale side. I would go back to try something else.

Best breakfast on 281 between San Antone and Lampasas.Food 5⭐️sI had Chess Club Bfast...Eggs, home fries, sausage, toast. The toast was homemade half white, half wheat, eggs done perfectly over easy. Can you screw up OE eggs....yes by overlooking. Not at Chess Club. Home fries were done fine. Sausage not your outta the box restaurant sausage.Wife had a bacon omelette....she said was perfect.Service 5⭐️sService was spot on....we were there on a Wed AM, and they were not real busy. But the waiter kept checking on us. The "staff" was joking....very friendly crew.Bakery 5⭐️s .....Wow. Cinnamon rolls, Dinner plate size Snickerdoodle cookies.Atmosphere 5⭐️s. Dine inside an old house or outside on picnic (and other ) options. Eclectic comes to mind. The Chess Club Cafe gets 10⭐️s on the price to value equation.Given the quality and VOLUME of food PLUS their prices have NOT recieved the now normal BIDENFLATION UPTICK.If you are needing some sustenance and are running up or down 281...or for that matter anywhere near Blanco Chess Club has the best food for your $. Guuuud Vittles.

Go, trust me, just go. This place has that small town charm and hospitality that this area of the hill country is famous for. The food is expertly prepared, the specials are always appealing. The staff is simply second to none, hands down, lights out. I had the CFS, one of the best around. My girl had the special, which was a Thanksgiving Wrap, with gravy and cranberry sauce. Friends I'm telling you, absolutely to die for. Not my first time visiting, certainly will not be my last.

Stopped in while passing through Blanco, Texas on 281. Keep hearing about how good it is, so of course the intrigue got the best of us. I was wanting a traditional eggs and meat breakfast, but our server said the Chicken Fried Steak was “Award Winning”…….so I HAD to try it!! Lol. I added a Blueberry Pancake as well.He did also said we should try a sample of everything to see how good it all is.My wife got the Chess Club Breakfast plate and added French Toast.Chicken Fried Steak Plate 7/10 - the homemade gravy was the star here. The CFS was good, but not the best. It did have a good breading but could have been cooked slightly longer as it had no crispness to it. The seasoning was lacking a little as well. It was a slightly thicker cut of meat and tender, so that was a plus. The gravy had a great flavor profile just like my family makes. The eggs and bacon were done up right and enjoyable. The potatoes were very good.Blueberry Pancake 7/10 - light and fluffy with just enough density to make it hearty. The blueberries were plentiful but not overwhelming.Chess Club Breakfast Plate 8/10 - the eggs were supposed to be over medium (yellow runny but the white cooked) and they were a little overdone. The flavor was still good though. The sausage patties tasted fresh and flavorful.French Toast 5/10 - thick bread but not much flavor. Maybe more cinnamon needed? The syrup was cold not warm.Service 9/10 - the entire staff was extremely attentive, friendly and helpful. Kudos y’all.Atmosphere 8/10 - nice cozy, country cafe in a quaint little Hill Country town.Overall 8/10 - definitely suggest this place. Everyone that told us about the Chess Club Cafe was spot on.
