I'm from upstate New York and visiting family in Abilene, TX. I have never had authentic Mexican food, so I was hoping to get some while in Texas, however, my other family members were looking for BBQ and burgers. While visiting Fort Chadbourne, I asked if there was a local restaurant where we could all get what we wanted. He immediately said, "The Red Barn." He said they have the best Mexican food and the best beef brisket around. He told us how to get there; only ten minutes away, located in Bronte, TX. This little place is a true GEM! We were met by Christy & Cathy, who welcomed us in with open arms. I was immediately guided to an amazing full menu of everything you could possibly want . . . good ole American food (BBQ, burgers, fries) to authentic Mexican food. When I was asked if I had ever had authentic Mexican before, I said, "No, but I love Taco Bell!" Everyone laughed. If you want the most delicious meal and a ton of it for a great price, you won't be disappointed in Pena's Red Barn Cafe! I had the "Texican" which was a sampler platter with a beef enchilada, a tamale, and beef taco, served with refried beans and rice, and unlimited tortillas with salsa. This food was the most amazing food I've ever eaten, and I'm not just saying that. We quickly learned that everything is made from scratch every day. The "Red Barn Cafe" is about an hour away from Abilene, but worth the trip. If I lived in Texas, I'd be making a road trip to this place, OFTEN!
Place was good. The salad was more then I expected. Very filling.

Great food! The Mexican Omelette, with extra red sauce, is the bomb, for breakfast. The cinco nachos, burgers, patty melt & barbecue are also excellent.
Best Brisket and sauce
We have been here twice. The food was really good, lots of flavor. The food price is reasonable and the service was good.
Family-friendly home town restaurant. Mexican food, barbecue, and home- style cooking. Not fancy, but comfortable and clean. Food is always great and service is quick. My favorites are the chicken flauta and the tex-mex plate. Cheese enchiladas are sundeck! Staff are welcoming and friendly, yet efficient. A regular stop for us!
