I was looking for a neat local cafe for lunch between Houston and Waco, and came across this place on google. The website looked promising, so I detoured over to check it out. I'm very glad i did! It was a miserable, dreary, soggy day and the chicken pot pie looked perfect for that. Excellent! Tender chicken, flavorful and well seasoned gravy and vegetables, all on great big homemade biscuit. Had a piece of raspberry crumble pie with whipped cream to finish it off. I travel often for work, all over the region, and this is one of the best finds I've come across. It's in a cool old building, it's clean and well decorated, wasn't too busy, and was reasonably priced. I will definitely be stopping here again when I'm in the area.

Delicious food and cute restaurant. I had the chili and it was delicious for a cold day and the coffee and snickerdoodle cookie was a great dessert for me

This is hands-down the best breakfast spot in Cameron—and genuinely one of the best in all of Central Texas. We ordered the Rancher’s Dutch Baby and the Brisket Hash, along with coffee, and everything was outstanding. Service was attentive, friendly, and exactly what you’d hope for from a great local restaurant.

They also sell pre-made baking mixes and spice blends you can take home, which is a great way to support a small local business even after your meal.

If you’re in Cameron or just passing through, this place is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back!

We stopped here based on Google reviews and were NOT disappointed. The cream sodas ordered were delicious. We had the blueberry Dutch baby, country hash and brisket hash. Each was phenomenal as was the service and the ambience. You will NOT leave hungry. Will definitely return!

So Glad We Stopped—What a Find!

We were just passing through town and decided to pop into J.P. Werner Cafe on a whim. Best. Decision. Ever.

First off, the staff was incredibly nice—welcoming and attentive without being overbearing. They made us feel right at home even though we were clearly just travelers passing through.

Now let's talk about the food, because WOW. I tried something called a Dutch baby for the first time, and I'm officially obsessed. It came out in a skillet looking like a giant, puffy, golden pancake with eggs and bacon on top—absolutely amazing. I had no idea what I was ordering, but I'm so glad I took the chance.

My husband got the open-face chili burger (the one buried under a mountain of fresh shredded lettuce), and he could not stop raving about it. The combination of the hearty chili, melted cheese, and that crispy fresh lettuce was apparently perfection.

And here's the kicker—they have a lemonade flight. Yes, you read that right. We got to try multiple flavors, including dill pickle lemonade, which sounds wild but was surprisingly refreshing and tangy in the best way.

The vibe is cozy and casual with a quirky charm that makes you want to linger. If you're in the area (or just passing through like we were), do yourself a favor and stop at J.P. Werner Cafe. You won't regret it.

If you have celiac DO NOT EAT THERE! We were very upfront with allergy, waitress asked twice, chef asked and said they could do the eggs and bacon but not potatoes. My friend became very ill before she could even get to the car!

I always make it a point to stop here when in Cameron. The food is so fresh and made with love. I don't usually eat biscuits and gravy but it's a must here. It's so good. The portions are so big that I can share it or take it to go for later. The service here has always been kind and attentive. The space is open and I love how they incorporated vintage elements in the restaurant. It's a small woman-owned business too, which is a nice bonus. My only complaint is that it's not closer to me!

My second time at JP’s and my second great breakfast. Everyone’s breakfast looked delicious. I had a huge Denver omelette, it was so big I couldn’t even touch the country potatoes. Very friendly service and a really neat old building. I’d highly recommend dining at JP Werner’s cafe!
