The lady was very kind, after living in Conroe for so long, I found it open and I don't think I'll be returning. It's horrible frozen and tasteless tamales. I'm very sorry for the lady. She recognizes that they return them for some reason. I didn't do it, but she commented that it's because of the cheese. and I believe because of all the flavor that it doesn't have. Not recommended at all ??

Walking in I was greeted to a table by Carmen who was also my server, I had a breakfast plate and she told me that the most popular item was the Tamales so I got a chicken and pork. Everything was delicious especially the sautéed potatoes!!! A far drive but I’ll be

I stopped in because my neighbor brags about this place. He was absolutely on point! The food was FABULOUS! The green chili chicken tamales were so good and I was licking the plate with the cheese enchiladas! Can't wait to go back and try their lunch buffet!!! Service was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. A MUST TRY!!!

These people are very nice. It's better to have the buffet earlier in the noontime, but my lunch doesn't usually fall until after 1 PM. The prices are very fair. This restaurant is an anchor for their catering business. It's not fancy, but I'm glad to go there often.

Food was delicious home made style food, buffet, fresh tacos, tamales, enchiladas along with pork and chicken fajitas , refried beans and rice served with fresh made flour tortillas hot and steaming, dessert was fresh fruit, chocolate cake, pudding and more if you like fresh Mexican food you have to try them out
My brother had the idea of visiting this family owned and operated restaurant. Although we arrived a bit after closing the owner was kind enough to open up her doors with a smile on her face. The environment and food was 11/10 to say the least.

Small place but great food definitely worth it for the money you spend, and such a convenient location.

Carmelita's is a new favorite of mine in downtown Conroe. It's in a small building that offers the feel as if your being welcomed into abuela's (grandma's) home. The wait staff are warm and inviting. The dining area is brightly-colored but dimly lit in a comfortable way. The first time I went I had the lunch buffet so as to be able to sample a variety of foods offered. Nothing disappointed, it was all delicious and of higher quality than what is usually found at all-you-can-eat buffets nowadays. I was surprised, given that I was craving typical mex tex-mex, that my favorite entrée that day was a savory pot pie dish of chicken and vegetables with a brown gravy topped with flaky layered biscuit triangles. Hopefully I'll have it again as the buffet offerings change daily. The buffet is served to you cafeteria style by the friendly waitresses but you are encouraged to eat as much as you wish. Of course if buffets are not appealing to you Carmelita's has a full menu with all the dishes you'd expect at a Mexican restaurant with budget conscious prices. They also sell tamales and have an assortment of about 6 or 8 different flavors including a vegan option. I intend to purchase some when I next visit--which hopefully will be very soon.Vegetarian options: They sell vegan tamales amongst other flavors.
