I rarely give a review on restaurants if not a 4,5 just because it’s tough business . I was looking forward to eating here and skipped restaurants in Athens to stop here. Food was decent , service was terrible , was never checked on after food arrived , no refill and after waiting 10 minutes finally got a check and was half heartedly offered a tea to go ! I won’t skip Athens restaurants next time . It was not that busy , but it is easy to take care of your customer before you and I normally tip 40-50%

Been eating here for 2 years and has been good. Today 10-10 my wife and I had dinner around 430pm. I had catfish and my wife had chicken fried steak. The hush puppys and fries were too greasy to eat. The fries were limp and smelled of grease. My wife's mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were cold. We don't mind paying as long as it's worth it, but this dinner was not worth $38. If we return, we will not get anything fried.

Used to be great. Now ...not so much. Undercooked grits Cold oatmeal I could go on but you get the idea. And they weren't that busy ...no excuse

The food was mediocre. The grits are seasoned with a smoky cheese and absolutely not what I expected. I had a philly cheesesteak omelette and it was very bland.

What a great meal. Traveling daily for work takes me all around N.E. Texas and a place this good is hard to find. Fresh food, great service and friendly people make The Roost a five star spot on my list.

My family of 5 and I were in town near Athens, TX for a family reunion. I found this restaurant today for us to try for breakfast based on the great reviews. We were ignored at the door while waiting for someone to assist us with a table. Once seated, staff started serving other guests after us with menus and coffee. When we asked for menus we were given a dirty look. After receiving such a negative experience, we decided it was time to leave and find another place more welcoming of all patrons.

Only been there twice, once a few years back was not exactly clean....this time it was excellent and such a delightful experience very cleanly and pleasant not sure why I clicked 3 stars should be 4 and a half easily....
