I have heard of this establishment a number of times and had the honor of visiting today. Experience is everything and Sophia B. made it that much better. She was so patient and knowledgeable of the menu and she took her time allowing us to figure it out. She gave her personal choices while encouraging new dishes. And the food and drinks did not disappoint. We had the Tamarind salad, braised beef rib, Texas redfish and the skillet cornbread. The presentation was phenomenal but nothing in comparison to the flavor. I am definitely coming back for a date night. In addition we also met Paul, the manager, whom we sang our praises of Sophia so go try them out and ask for Sophia!!!!

I had a great first time experience - our waiter Sophia B was very patient and kind, the manager Paul was attentive and knowledgeable, the food was finger licking good, and the cocktails were perfection. It was just an all around incredible experience. Get the cornbread FOR SURE. We loved everything - the short ribs, the red fish, the tamrine (probably not spelled correctly) salad. Prices are worth it and reasonable.

I wanted to eat somewhere special for my friend's birthday and Roots didn't disappoint. I loved the ambiance and intimacy the restaurant had. Since we went on a Sunday evening there were musicians playing jazz but we could still hold conversation. The food was great and flavorful. The portions were so big that of course we had to take food home but all in all everything was great. It is pricey but I believe worth it.

Phenomenal food and service. This was my first time here, just catching up with an old friend. The food was seasoned perfectly, mouth watering and delicious. Our server for the night (Desmond) was an absolute charm and provided exceptional tableside service. The only thing that could have made it better were if I had met Chef Tiff herself. I'm looking forward to coming back. 10 out of 10, would recommend 😉👌🏾

First off, we love Chef Tiffany!! Could not wait to support her. Server was Keenan, very knowledgeable and great service. We ordered the duck fat fried chicken, crawfish fried rice, fried yams. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes and corn bread appetizer. My favorite thing was the fried yams, amazing!! The fried chicken is an acquired taste but was so crunchy and cooked so well. We were disappointed in the tomatoes. They weren’t well cooked or seasoned. The tomato and dredge was super bland but the corn relish was great. The biscuits and cornbread were great. The jam and smoked butter 10/10!

This is a small restaurant great for an intimate dinner. I made a reservation for my friend's birthday. They gave us a complimentary glass of wine for the occasion. The food had so much flavor, variety, and color. The gumbo was average, but I would definitely reorder everything else. I can't wait to go back.

My grandmother passed away a few years ago. Her gumbo was “the family recipe” and it was delicious. I sit with my grandmother when I eat here. The food includes some inventive and scrumptious takes on old favorites. Try the shrimp and grits. I’ll be making my way through the menu. In truth, the gumbo, greens and cornbread has truly stolen my palate and my heart. Like I said, that’s my grandmas table, straight from St Charles,La. Roots is just the right word. The service and art should be noted and appreciated. It’s a little off the beaten path but I guess I’d go to the ends of the earth for my grandmas gumbo.

High expectations and there was NO disappointment. From the server to the timeliness of the food, to the taste and quality of the food it is a tremendous experience.

To say the food was phenomenal is an understatement. The restaurant has some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. And don’t get me started on the cornbread. During, my visit I sat at the bar and the drinks were top notch as well. I don’t live in the Dallas area but when I visit this will be one of my go to spots.

Update: Been back a few times. Pork Belly was wonderful. The fried chicken and Shrimp and Grits are consistent favorites. The service on this last visit was kinda eh, but I won't let that stop us from returning. The good outweighs the bad so we will be back.

This was my second time coming and the food was even better. We had a nice sampling of Hoppin John, Greens Shrimp n Grits, Lamb Chops, Red Fish and Salmon. An added bonus was seeing Chef Tiffany in her element. Everything was soooo good. Everyone at our table had a clean plate. Reservations are recommended!!
