The Original Pancake House

I have always loved any OPH I have been to so I had high hopes coming here for the first time. We arrived at 1020am on a Saturday and thankfully you can check in online via Yelp through Google to get in the wait line in advance. We were 13th when we left the hotel and 3rd in line when we pulled in. I got us checked in after parking and 5 minutes later we were up to be seated. Be sure to use this function if coming in on a busy weekend!

We had drinks served fast and orders placed soon after. I got an item I had not seen on the menu before, the healthy lifestyle omelet with a side of 3 ancient grain hotcakes. My wife did the eggs and 2 sides (bacon and hotcakes) and my son did a breakfast burrito with bacon added and a side of hotcakes and potatoes.

I crushed my meal and my wife and son nearly demolished theirs also. My only gripe was that the former buckwheat hotcakes were better than the new ancient grain cakes. I usually get those but the server said the recipe changed and they were not as good as before. The ancient grain cakes tasted like any ordinary whole wheat hotcake, still good yes but not amazing. I love how they whip the eggs for the omelets making them light and airy and larger than normal omelets.

Great services, quick service, tasty food, good prices, smart check-in process to avoid wait times, all round good experience at another OPH!

Love this place, but had a bad experience today. Hoping management can do some training. We came with a party of 5 to celebrate my son's birthday. We came at noon and were told it would be a 20 minute wait, no big deal. However, we didn't get seated until we had waited for an hour. Also, while frustratingly waiting, I watched the bus girl take a full 20 minutes to prep our table after the family left. She could not have moved slower.

So, my feedback is two fold. 1. Work on expectations with your team, so they can improve this. 2. Teach your employees that speed matters.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. My family and I made a party of 6. We were placed in a private dining room which was a nice reprieve for my rambunctious toddler. The pumpkin pancakes I ordered were scrumptious! My husband and father also sampled them. Everyone else in our party enjoyed the irish corned beef hash benedict. My toddler finished his entire adult sized plate of avocado toast with over medium eggs! Our server was very attentive and gracious. What a lovely experience.

This review is not based on my server but Patty another server I watched serve a table of 14 including very small children. She served them with excellence and even helped me across the way after I sat there for 15 minutes waiting on my own server to bring me utensils. I was sat with no silverware or napkin, served coffee without a spoon or anything. I asked my server for silverware and still waited for 10 minutes without it. Patty went and got me silverware and a napkin and still managed to get her tables food out in a timely manner as I watched. Unfortunately, the adults a that table only tipped her $4, and left a considerable mess for her to clean up.
I am all for restaurants adding the gratuity for large groups for this very reason. Many don’t realize that people who work in service sometimes make below minimum wage because they mostly live on the gratuity. I applaud Patty for keeping her composure and continuing her work despite the disappointment. She even helped me checkout because my server was MIA. I couldn’t help bless her for her troubles. If you come to this restaurant, please know you’ll get the best service with Patty.

Pumpkin pancakes were so good. The fresh squeezed orange is a favorite of mine. Patty was our server and she justs makes your day a little brighter. Overall an A++++
