Big spacious local winery with historic charm and a nice outdoor patio:)

I love the wine and the atmosphere at all 3 of the locations I've visited, but Greenville is my favorite because of the outdoor area they have, just beautiful. All of the other times I've been here have been stellar. Today was the exception. Wine and food were good again but could have used better service. No one ever came to check on me and see how I was doing, did I want any more, etc. I was planning on ordering another glass with dessert. Eventually, I went inside, but no one was around. Stood there for several minutes. This was today early afternoon. I will come back because you just can't beat half price bottle on Wednesday. However, I am hoping it was just a fluke and service is back to its stellar self. Would have been 5 ?.

I have wanted to take a side trip here for several years and finally did on my last trip back from Dallas. Greenville is a great small town. This winery has 6 locations around northeast Texas which makes them larger than most wineries, and I figured they knew what they were doing ( I was a wine educator at Far Niente Winery for 5 years, so I know what I'm doing). You walk in and it smells like a winery. I miss that smell! There is a large main room with a big U-shaped bar in the center, and a smaller room as well, looking much like an upscale restaurant/bar, more so than a tasting room. And I made it on 'Wine Down Wednesday' 1/2 price on wine bottles. For a solo patron there were no chairs at the bar, so I had to sit at a table of 4, making it more work for the server, if I wanted to keep asking them questions. It would be so much easier at the bar. These business decisions inform me a lot about how they run their company. You get 5 samples for $25 poured one at a time in the same glass. You can add more choices. Yeah, no. By the last wine they all taste and smell the same and you cannot go back and re-taste. I asked for a new glass each time and was accommodated. They make about 30 different wines in every category from classic, blends, reserves... As this was my first visit, I went classic: Sauvignon Blanc, Reserve Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir, and Reserve Cabernet. Plus a wild card I will mention later. I didn't order food, as I had Buc-ee's snacks in the car. I wanted an educational tasting, but that's not part of it. You are on your own, with an extensive menu to choose from and food options. That would be fine, I guess, for the average person walking in here, but not if you want to learn about their wines, and how they are made, etc.... Or if you want to learn about more than 5 wines. They do a tour and tasting infrequently, but I'm not sure if you taste only from barrels, or some bottles as well. It sounds like I wouldn't recommend this place, but I do. It is worth the stop and effort, but where they are okay, they could be great. I liked their wines, at least the ones I chose, and bought a bottle of the first five ranging in price from $22-$43. The wines had a classic profile, exactly what you would expect from each grape variety. That's a good thing. For me, wine is to be paired with food. That is where the extraordinary magic happens. They compliment each other, and there are classic food and wine pairs. Yes, I know that would cost more, and a good food and wine pairing is worth it. Or, how about listing a food pairing with each limited description of each wine? I wanted more information. Happily, I ended up with 6 glasses in front of me, and could go back and forth at will. It was also way too dark in there to check the color, or any visual clues about the wines. So that tells me they are not set up for serious wine tasting experiences. My 6th wine? I asked for a wild card based on the 5 choices I made, and got a Cabernet Franc Reserve. I was secretly hoping for a blend, but I was open to whatever. Now that I have a bottle of each of my 5 classic choices, I want to do a tasting w/ food for my friends and promote some good Texas wines in Arkansas. They ship to Arkansas! After I placed my order of wine to go, confirming the WDW 1/2 price, the server came back to my table and said it was only for up to 3 bottles at 1/2 price. Doesn't say that on the signage, website or when you place your order.... I asked for the lowest priced 2 to be regular price, and the higher priced wines to be 1/2 price. A few days later the thought occurred to me I should check the vintages of my bottles against what I tasted and ordered.... The 3 whites were the same, but I got an older Pinot Noir, and a younger Cabernet Sauviginon Reserve. So now you know. Details will kill you. And the suggested tip starts at 25% which in my case would be $45. Do they not pay their employees? I rarely got a tip that large in my 5 years working at a luxury winery. I would like to go back and taste so

Great Staff, venue, wine, and end to the Cotton Patch Challenge.Enjoyed the quip reply to ‘I’d like a sweet white, the sweeter the better!’ Of ‘well that’s me!’ By the lovely tall lady behind the bar.

Great little hidden gem in Greenville. A definite wedding/ party/or event gathering place that has ample space and good parking. This treasure is tucked away in a small town that may seem to be forgotten but it's people are very much present and welcoming to all newcomers. The hostess Kelly is very knowledgeable of her wines and is very helpful to patrons from all walks of life. I didn't plan to stop by but I am very much glad I did.
