Steak was amazing. Got the 12 oz ribeye medium rare. And this is more on the rare side. The waitress did warn us it would come like that. BYOB. Forgot to check if there was a corking fee. They did provide us with a corkscrew for our wine and plastic cups. Salad bar is nothing special. But you're here for the steak. Showed up at 5:30 and only waited about an hour. People in like are friendly.

A neat little place to go for something different yet very the familiar. The ambiance makes the place it's a rustic old store turned into a restaurant. Didn't have to wait a long time to get in and once seated the service was pretty quick. The steak was really good and the desserts were better!!

I'm looking forward to going back. I heard about this place from a friend and she was very right about how good it is!

It's great, Just go, you'll see. I would say if you are at least 1 hour from this place you need to check it out. You won't find a steak this good for the price anywhere. Sides are good. Salad bar, meh, deserts average. Service, extremely good. It's a well oiled machine there. Oh, and be prepared to get there early or wait outside. Another plus is you can bring your own wine!

We'd driven past the General Store on 75 and those long lines countless times on Friday and Saturday nights, but finally managed to visit this past weekend. With "destination restaurants" such as this one, the question is always "worth it?" or "all hat and no cattle?" Well, friends, I'll land on the side of -- Real Deal. Let's get the negatives out of the way. First -- yes, it can take some time. We arrived a little before 5pm (they open at 5:30) to join the line, and left around 7ish. And we waited quite a while for those steaks. Now, while you're waiting, you can get some salad -- and when I say salad, I mean some salad mix dumped in a bowl, with Thousand Island, Ranch, and Sysco Italian. I'd say don't bother, but...it's something to pass the time until the steaks arrive. The steaks. Oh. My. Almost everyone at our table got the 12oz ribeye, medium rare. I'm ashamed to say that I finished every bite, as did all the male participants. Fantastic steak, straight up -- no trickeration, no truffle garlic butter. Also, plenty of fat left in -- if you're used to 6 oz. filets, well, welcome to reality. Don't think I've ever had a better ribeye. A couple of folks ordered the pork steaks (you get two) -- unbelievably good as well. Would be hard for me to order, knowing what I now know about the steaks, but...they're fantastic. Side of somewhat abused new potatoes, soaked in butter, was yummy, along with a nice dinner roll. Didn't even try dessert -- maybe another time. Note on drinks -- the General Store doesn't serve alcohol, but you can bring in your own wine or, as a neighboring table did, your own 50 oz. Buc-ee's cups. The little shop next door also sells wine by the bottle for your convenience. We were perfectly fine with iced tea -- the steaks are the stars of this show. In summary -- yes, the General Store is worth a trip. Just set aside the time and your cell phone and enjoy...

This was my first time here this evening. Totally worth the drive. We're in Houston, TX. It took about 1-1/2 hours to ge there. There's plenty of parking. We waited about 30 mins to be seated. There was plenty of seating while you wait. The hostess and waitresses were very nice and professional. The steak!! Was perfectly seasoned. It did not need A-1 sauce or butter. This was the best steak I've ever eaten. I ordered medium well. The potatoes were also delicious. Nice garlic and cheese taste. The place was clean and so were the bathrooms. Relaxed environment. It was $30. a plate. We couldn't finish our food. We will be returning!

I enjoyed our visit to this restaurant, but I don't think it deserves the hype around it. The dining area is large, but with very little character. The service was extremely cordial and pleasant. The highlight of the experience! With regard to the food: the salad is bagged mixed greens with some off-the-shelf dressing. Unremarkable. The ribeye: nice flavor, but on the tough side. The rather unpleasant texture offsets the pleasure derived from the flavor. The side potatoes are delicious, as are the dinner rolls. All that at above average prices. Overall, an experience I don't regret having, but one I am not planning to repeat.

An amazing experience for an evening out. Great steaks and great owners, but the parking is a nightmare. They need clear signs on where to park so it's not so dangerous.

Made my 1st visit to the famed Leona General Store with a group of friends & had basically the best steak I've ever put in my mouth. The 12oz ribeye cooked medium was absolutely perfect, as were the buttered semi-mashed potatoes as a side. Topped it off with a bowl of warm peach cobbler & I left fat n happy.Largely on luck, we got in the coolest of 3 seating areas, but I'm also keenly aware that the other rooms were a lot warmer. If you have a choice, don't sit in the main dinning room right inside the front doors.Service was fast & friendly. I'm already looking for a chance to take my wife back for my 2nd trip.

The service at this establishment is spectacular, and the steaks are phenomenal. I traveled well over an hour from Houston to eat here, and am excited to return. The pecan cobbler was a revelation.

First time here for their fish fry. It was good and the star was definitely the catfish. Fries a little stale and the beans needed seasoning. Cocktail sauce and hush puppy were pretty good. Customer service very friendly but a little slow (I saw several tables waited by too long to be served). The brownie sundae took like 20 minutes and maybe had too much chocolate syrup but was decadent and worth the wait!

Waited 30 minutes for cold catfish, extremely greasy and stale fries, horrible beans, unseasoned hush puppy and coleslaw that had so much dressing it was like a soup. Severely disappointed and not to mention our all over the place waitress. I witnessed a table sit down after us and I over heard after an extremely long wait they lost their ticket! Unbelievable!Never again! The store next door has cute items for sale but they are severely overpriced!Never again! Don't waste your money on this nonsense!
