Chicken Fried Steak tender, fried onion strings tasty, Cole slaw awesome, nice touch with red onion and pepper on top. Gravy missing bacon drippings, but overall both meal and waitress awesome ! ?

Good spot but a repeating pattern at the bar. Bartenders constantly gone / empty bar, takes forever to get service or a refill. Example: waited 7-10min with empty glass (no bartender in sight whole time & the last min of happy hour ticked by), asked for beer refill when barman returned, order acknowledged, then walked away and took table orders, made all their cocktails, and didn’t bring simple draft beer. Forgetting is OK, but lack of scanning the status of the bar patrons drink levels every few min or asking “you good, need anything?” doesn’t seem to be a practice here.
Meanwhile 2 table servers standing on the side of the bar watching ? on TV & chatting and the host was glued to his phone.
Again…good spot & vibe, decent happy hour food menu, sweet patio, etc. but the service or manager oversight system not good on 5x late afternoon / early evening visits.

We stopped in for dinner after flying into DFW. The restaurant was relatively slow (Thursday night). There was plenty of parking on the street and in the lot next to the restaurant.
We were quickly seated and waited on. Our order of ribeye steak and burnt ends with sides of mashed potatoes, fried okra, and fried pickles were quickly taken and served.
Our waiter, Doray, (apologies if I got his name wrong - I tried to recall) was excellent and provided recommendations. He was pleasant and attentive without coming off as overbearing.
The ribeye, with its mesquite wood-cooked taste was ridiculously delicious. It was tender and cooked as requested. The burnt ends were good. However, my wife did not care for some of the fatty pieces. The sides were fresh but I felt that the pickles could have been fried a bit longer and they were too tart.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Prairie House Restaurant. Definitely recommend.

The vicinity is an old mill converted into a restaurant. The brisket queso was delicious and the chips were warm upon arrival. Their green beans and roasted corn was phenomenal! We enjoyed steaks, the fried fish and falls shrimp. We really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere ?

Tl;dr - don't order the burnt ends
This place is such an enigma. The things they do well, they do really well, but the things they do poorly... yikes.
We ordered the trio, which came with banditos, burnt ends, and sausage. The sausage was delicious, the banditos were yummy little tidbits, and the burnt ends were the worst I've ever had. They were so bad that I'd be stunned to discover they're from a brisket. They tasted like dry, undercooked chuck roast. Hard pass.
Husband ordered a 5 oz filet, medium rare. Good cut. Well seasoned. Baked potato and onion strings both got the stamp of approval.
I ordered Mahi tacos with rice and Mac and Cheese. Tacos were completely flavorless. Rice was meh. Mac and Cheese was amazing. This should be a main dish. They're missing a huge opportunity by only having it as a side item.

4.4 stars for the food. Mostly good but not great. For me the BBQ chicken was nice though the coleslaw was not. Others in our party enjoyed a steak, a hamburger (very salty fries), brisket, and chicken fried steak. For 5 of us with 2 drinks and 20% tip it was $147. Nice, country ambiance.

I went here while passing through Lewisville and my steak was so yummy and tender! Our waitress was so attentive and sweet also I wish I could remember her name! The only reason I gave the atmosphere a 4 is because it was warm in there but it's a large old building in the texas heat ?♂️ everything else was great!
