Best BBQ hands down!! Travelled across the US and been to some of the highest rated BBQ joints in each state but none compare to City Market in Luling. Best BBQ you’ll find, Texas, Memphis, Carolina, or Kansas Cory style.
Honestly years ago was better last time there was very disappointed. Food over cooked. Dry and hard sausage. Plus long lines always and wat hot. It's like they never have air on or not enough. Plus u will be eating on butcher paper. No plates used here.
Enjoyed this visit much better. Lots of ppl. We normally don't travel during holidays. But it was worth it.
A great annual event to attend. A wonderful country small town experience. A vast variety of vendors makes a walk around the grounds pleasureable. The live music adds spice to it all. Very affordable.
The line was extremely long to get inside the restaurant so we were anticipating great food! The wait wasn’t entirely long but the heat made it feel like it was. Once we got our BBQ the presentation was great but the lack of flavor was disappointing. The ribs were pretty good but the brisket was very fatty and the most flavor was when we added lots of BBQ sauce. The sausage was a bit greasy. Overall the service was nice but definitely need more flavor in the BBQ.
I think the crowds they pull is everything you need to know about city market. Today was a Watermelon thump, and the line had to be an hour long out the door standing in the heat! The other barbecue house on the other side of 183 however, no waiting. What does that say? I eat it both of them and I think both of them are good. I think they're radical political view that they held during Covid. Ran a lot of people off from Luling barbecue. I probably didn't go for a year after that. There was some radical crap going on up in there! But with that said, today I eat it both of them and I've only seen the crazy lady there once in five years.
Stopped on way back home to LV. Had preordered meat to be frozen and ready to go. All was packaged but not frozen. Had to stop in Seguin for dry ice. Had lunch before we left Luling. Brisket wonderful! Sides were great. Sausage not like it used to be...not smoky and not a little greasy anymore....

My brother lives in St Paul and wants to bring his retired friends to visit some authentic Texas BBQ restaurants. My friend told me about the City Market. I wasn't disappointed. I plan to include visiting City Market aong with Kruetz and Blacks in Lockhart. We also plan to visit Salt Lick in Driftwood. I only wish they offered Beef ribs, but the Brisket and pork libs I had were tremendous.

I've been going to city market since I was a toddler. It was me, Mom and Dad only. I'm 62 now and still go often.

It doesn't spell like BBQ when you enter the restaurant like I would expect a BBQ restaurant to do.

With all due respect, I'm confused by all of the rave reviews. We stopped on our way home from a road trip based on the reviews, but the place was dirty, disorganized (you had to go into one room to order the meat and then to another counter for sides), the meat was fatty and dry and the sauce was... different. Would have been nice to have a more traditional option. I don't mean to offend regarding the food, but the cleanliness issue was my main concern. Very dirty bathrooms, and the dining areas were also dirty.

Good BBQ! Brisket was tender, and the ribs were very meaty. The provided sauce was good. The sides were average. I'll travel to see them again.

Great barbecue. Worth the small drive from SA. Sauce different but good. I recommend the barbecue with no sauce. The meats have a great taste all on their own. Pinto beans very good. Parking a bit tight, and a line of fans, well worth the wait. Definitely be back.

I recently drove from Seguin to Houston and couldn't resist stopping at a highly-reviewed BBQ place I passed. While I was intrigued, I was ultimately disappointed with the food. Having experienced the BBQ at Lockhart, Franklin's, and even neighborhood joints, I expected much better.
The BBQ style seemed unique, almost like beef jerky. It was dry and crispy, a far cry from the juicy, smoky flavors I'm accustomed to. There were only three meat options: sausage, ribs, and brisket. Unfortunately, we didn't have a choice of brisket cut and were given the flat, which was seasoned on the outside but had no bend.
The ribs were dry and crispy, like jerky. The sausage was lacking in fat and had a boudin-like flavor, with pieces falling apart easily.
It was clear we were the first Asian customers to visit the establishment, as the staff seemed surprised to see us. However, the service was friendly and helpful.
After ordering the BBQ meats in the back room, we went to the main area to select our sides. The sides were pre-selected and not displayed for us to choose. Overall, while the service was good, the BBQ itself left much to be desired.
Unfortunately, the restroom was in desperate need of updating. It felt dirty and old, especially with the rusted hand blower. It was like stepping back in time, almost like a post-apocalyptic movie scene."
