Great BBQ spot! The brisket was juicy and the sausage had a nice kick. Generous portions and friendly service — definitely go hungry.

3 meat plate was old and cold like it was left sitting out. TRASH will never go back

I am deeply offended by what they had the gull to even put on a plate and serve. $31.00 of my HARD EARN MONEY WAS TRADED FOR TRASH my 3 meat plate was dry as hell as if it were not covered and left sitting out. I will tell everyone I know about this place.
The Texas-sized brisket sandwich is the real deal! These folks know BBQ.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to the coast. Their brisket was really good. Juicy, moist, great flavor. The bbq sauce had a little kick to it. The jalapeño cheese sausage was also nice. Service was great and very attentive. Will stop here again next time.

poor service - dirty tables - lack luster food - down town store closed ! if that tells ya anything .
This place has really gone downhill. The service is non-existent. The two black shirt women berating the red shirt cashier was very unprofessional. The food is still good, and the cashier was pleasant, but the rest of the staff was pretty useless.
The best I’ve had in South Texas.
I have friends that work there and told me one day some girl Jennifer was sick and she was coughing all over the plates I will never go there
The original Smoliks BBQ is permanently closed. Confirmed by phone call.

(11-3-2024) brisket tasted horrible! Bark tasted like charcoal starter and liquid smoke. Beans were unseasoned and bland. It’s definitely not worth the price they charge plus they take on an extra 3% if you pay with a debit card. It’s gone way downhill since their “Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ” they like to brag about. Won’t be spending another dime there! Bill Miller at 5-points has them beat by a mile! Don’t waste your time or money on Smolik’s!
There are two locations in Mathis. The one by the highway is a little more modern with a drive through and such. If road tripping to the valley or corpus it’s one of the last good places to get some Texas Monthly TOP50 BBQ. I can’t quite stomach 20 plus bucks for a lunch plate so I usually get a Large Chopped Beef on the gourmet bun if they have them baked up (additional 50 cents or something but a really great bun), and the wife really likes the big stuffed bbq potatoes! The creamed corn is an amazing side. I come from central Texas where the legends like tootsie at snows cook and this is about as close as it gets to that good stuff while down by the beach!
Parking: Fuel stop next door you can park your 18 wheeler or big trailer. I park my tractor there
