Great food, great service, good vibes all around. Feels like a classic dive bar. (Which in the middle of nowhere pretty much is refreshing) prices are little on the high side, but does not take away from the overall quality and presentation. Pizza is the best by far. While on our anniversary road trip through Texas, my husband and I stumbled upon a true hidden gem in Menard—Summerland Public House—and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip.
The food was exceptional—elevated comfort dishes with a creative twist. Every bite felt thoughtful and made with care, and the ingredients tasted fresh and locally sourced. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty meal or something light and flavorful, the menu has something for everyone.

Way overpriced, inconsistent servings based on menu descriptions, slow service. We waited more than 25 minutes for our orders in an empty restaurant and were served disappointing looking dishes. The grilled cheese, for example, was made with inside out burger buns and barely a handful of fries - did not even look like a fulfilling kids meal but w s a normal meal apparently. Only one dish, the wrap, looked like it was plated correctly. Friendly atmosphere, but food was unsatisfying.

I have had two amazing meals at Summerland over the past few days. The food was outstanding! Kerry was our server and was incredibly welcoming! Everything from the Smash burgers to the chicken wings ( with the house made sauces) were loaded with flavor -which we ALL loved- but I must mention the corn ribs!!!!! Such a flavorful surprise! The vibe in there was so friendly !!! I can’t wait to come back! I wish I could give this place a thousand stars!

Also, it’s hard to spot a restaurant that has amazing burgers and also pizza 🍕 the best part of it all, was the amazing service we had! Super friendly staff! We were passing through and there weren’t many food options in town. Decided to try this place and ordered takeout. They had toys for the kids to play with while we waited. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed for our dinner on the road! Food was real good too!
What a great little gem. Pub burger, fresh beef, house made pickled onions, jalapenos made to perfect proportions, fresh plate of fries, cooked to order. It’s a non descript little dive but a gold mine of flavor and excellence. They were out of draft beer (save a lonely saison) overwhelmed by a recent crowd but the star of this show is the food! Ask about off menu items, this week was a buffalo chicken wrap. Someone in the back house is paying attention to the details, can’t recommend it enough!

I went for the smashburger, a local favorite, and it was a juicy, savory masterpiece—piled high with caramelized onions and cheddar that practically melted into the patty, messy in the best way possible. My husband opted for the special, chicken fried steak, a hearty, golden-crusted delight smothered in creamy gravy that left him raving about Texas comfort food done right. For the kids, we ordered a cheese pizza and a root beer float to share—the pizza was simple, cheesy perfection that kept their little hands busy, while the float was a bubbly hit among the under-four crowd. Traveling with three kids under four can be a challenge, but Summerland made it a breeze. The vibe is casual and family-friendly, complete with games that kept our crew entertained while we settled in. The service was fast and genuinely friendly, with staff who didn’t blink at our chaotic family and made us feel like regulars even on our first visit. Summerland Public House turned a routine stop into an experience worth savoring. After the rugged beauty of Big Bend, this place felt like a “summerland” retreat we’ll long to return to.
