Mary’s was always a go to place for chicken fried steak. This visit was a disappointment to me and the people I was with. Chicken Fried steak was a disappointment it was over cooked and had no breading on it.My last two visits have disappointed

We enjoy getting in the car for a drive West to Mary’s Cafe. Not only are we treated like rock stars when we dine, we always have such a good experience here. Never, ever have I been to a restaurant where it’s not uncommon to have the main star…Mary take your order. She is always so gracious and loving towards us and getting to know the staff personally and feel like family every time we walk in.If you have ever looked for a hometown feel with excellent food and atmosphere. Look no further for you have found the spot!!Get to know them, they become family!

This spot was on the wife's bucket list due to the many YouTube reviews and tv shows about how great it is. So we drove 2hrs Saturday to experience the greatness, but It is NOT! I had the CFS and wife the fried chicken. Her fried chicken was burnt and there was more breading than dry chicken. CFS had no seasoning and gravy had a burnt after taste. Then to top it off, the menu had CFS for $19 and fried chicken for $16, but they charge you $23 and $22.50 respectively. The worst part is they don't tell you until they hand you the check! Looks like the food shows and YouTube foodies made a mistake here. The people were very nice is the only good thing we can say about it.

Best Chicken Fried Steak around! Lived in North Central Texas forever, and we stop eat there every time we go out to our ranch in Abilene! Worth the time, wait, or trip! The CFS Baked Potatoes are awesome too! Huge portions!

Opted for the "famous" chicken fried steak.....needless to say it was lacking. Not much flavor, the breading is soggy and the gravy was meh. A bit pricy as well, small chicken fried steak is about $20. Service is good, didn't have to wait for refills. Will definitely go to Cotton Patch Cafe for my next CFS craving.

Been hearing this is best Chicken Fried Steak “CFS” in Texas and i really enjoy CFS! What a major disappointment- steak appeared to possibly being prepared a couple of hours early anticipating lunch crowd. Batter, if used, was not visible. Price @ $19.50 for small is as high as DFW high end steak houses. Absolutely worst CFS and I am Texas born & raised and have had many many CFS all over Texas for over 65 years.

Chicken fried chicken was the worse thing I’ve ever had. A small piece of chicken was pounded so thin it was hard to find! Thick breading resulted in just a hard piece of crust laid on the plate. And for any place in west Texas to not serve sweet tea is beyond absurd to just plain stupid

Wish all other breakfast places made food this good. Delicious. Great servers! Wonderful owner!

Like most people we heard a lot about Mary’s so we decided to try it out when family was visiting. The chicken fried steaks are extremely large and we liked them. They are not your typical breaded, deep fried, chicken fried steaks. They are lightly floured, soaked in butter and fried on a flat top. ?. The mashed potatoes are real potatoes and the gravy is great! Overall, we were happy, and again, the portions are humongous!!! Our only complaint was the salads that came with our order, they were terrible!!! It was obviously not fresh, as it was brown and slightly wilted. When asked if we could get a fresh salad we were told they were all like that, and were offered beans as a replacement. To me, if your salads are not fresh, it’s quite simple, don’t serve them, as it questions the freshness of your other food. Overall, we were satisfied with our meals(minus the salads) but will not drive over an hour to go back.

Had heard about Mary's for years so we decided to try it on a Sunday afternoon. The service was great. the waitress said the medium steak would be about 4” x 6”. That turned out to be for one steak and there were two. We had the French fries, and they were great, fresh cut not frozen, crisp, and tasty. The salad was a small bowl of old café style salad with iceberg and some chopped tomatoes. It was fresh and Blue Cheese dressing was chunky and good. As to the steaks, they would have been great, they were of good size and the correct tenderness for a chicken fry but the oil needed changing as it tasted burnt. There were burnt bits on the breading. The gravy, which I believe was homemade, would have been good if they had thinned it with a little milk. Too thick and pasty. Overall, I think after reading other reviews and this expense we will pass on Mary’s next time.

Absolutely the best southern home cooking. And the Mexican food is great as well. Fun relaxed atmosphere with great service. Great group of people. Have been many times and never disappoints!
