This place needs a lot to be more successful but the main one is the food. First of all plastic utensils are a complete NO NO. Some of us had real utensils but about half had plastic which made handling the overcooked hard or burned food difficult. Tiny plastic kid cups were given to us when we ordered any type of drink but we were charged like it was an entire bottle. Also you'll have more ice than drink. The chicken & waffles both were overcooked & the pancakes were burned so badly only the outer circle could be eaten. The chicken tenders were tough, not seasoned well & overcooked. And the fried cabbage I ordered were more like oversalted plastic, you'd have to chew endlessly before digesting, it was tough & the absolute worst. I asked for bread & it was drenched with grease & it looked & tasted awful. My niece ordered a burger & fries & the meat was burned, lacked seasonings & tasted horrible. Even the fries didn't pass, they were hard & dry. The prices were unbelievably high for such inadequate food! To charge so much money for such poor quality food is just wrong. Make the cost equal the taste & no one will mind paying a lot, I sure wouldn't. The blackened fish may or may not meet your approval, one order was good the other one was bad but both weren't worth the high price, It's not like we were at a 5 star restaurant with all high quality great menus. The inexperienced cook needs to be replaced or trained properly immediately. I have to say this though, the servers were kind, courteous & caring. One kind gentleman even sang a beautiful birthday song for the celebrated family member. We all ordered our food for the party we were attending but to our surprise, It took an hour & a half for our food to arrive & others even longer! So we didn't eat together as a group & that was the plan. I'm sorry to say but our experience was a disaster. We dealth with this unsavory situation that day because we all loved one another & enjoyed each other's company which made up for the bad experience. We didn't complain to management that day but I had to do this review to let the owners know, a change is extremely needed. So please, use this review as a "tool only" for a better more successful future.

First of all, I made a reservation for 5, but was told when I got there at 5 that they were not opening until 6. We waited outside in the heat for them to open. About 5:45 we went to see if they were open yet, and they said no, but offered to let us come in out of the heat. When I asked the chef, why was I allowed to make a reservation for 5 if they weren't opening until 6. He replied he was still prepping the food. When they finally did come to take our order, the food was not good! I ordered the fried shrimp and fries. The shrimp was not seasoned and had just been fried in cornmeal. The fries were soggy. I was very disappointed! I had visited Sugar's years ago before Covid and the food was excellent! I will not be going again!

I gave a low rating because overall, the event was a bit overpriced, and the details when purchasing the tickets were misleading. Considering I paid $25 to see the Chicago steppers perform, the event host was a bit pushy to have guests get up and dance. As for the food, it was fine, but serving drinks in plastic and styrofoam cups was pretty cheap for the cost of the drinks. That's my last visit to Sugar's. I'd hoped that they'd actually made some improvements from my previous visit for brunch last year. The owner and manager should consider what their expectations would be when they visit another establishment and implement that at their own. Don't offer what you might consider below your standard if you were the customer. People are willing to pay for good service.
Went here for a comedy show that was supposed to start at 8pm according to the tickets...the headliner personally informed me we are starting late. There was a man who I assume worked the kitchen who kept coming to the floor in small black shorts and a tight white T, so it's like sir where are your clothes. Thought he would have changed after 9pm when the show started, he never did. He was however behind the bar smoking hookah with another lady. I brought this up because the tickets advertised hookah in which she showed up after 9:30pm. The hookah had several complaints but that's not on Sugars. I will say it wasn't worth the $50. I never have a complaint on hookah prices bcuz that's your price but at least let it have flavor and smoke. The food was over priced. $24 for a shrimp basket for it to be 5 of them and literally served in a basket. Ordered etoufee sauce with my meal the lady brought it out after I finished my shrimp, almost 20 minutes later. The wings and waffles was 2 eggo waffles and of course over priced. We tried ordering their specialty drinks in which all of them were distasteful. I forgot to mention if you ordered water or soda you got it in a small Styrofoam cup but charged like you had a full drink when this is smaller than a kids cup. Next time I see this establishment as the venue I know to pass

If you are looking for an upscale date night location....this is not the place. I really was excited to visit, so let me start with the good. Great saxophone artist that performed and the food was okay. That's about it. I had not patronized Sugar's before, but my boyfriend gave rave reviews about it. Unfortunately, those reviews were from over a year ago. Once we entered the establishment it was obvious that the air conditioning was not fully functioning, so once we sat "ourselves," my boyfriend asked the waiter to please adjust to a cooler temperature. The ambiance of the place and service needs to be revisited as there was one person who waited on customers, made and served the drinks, walked around singing, and most importantly got a few puffs from the hookah. The dirty menu looked like it had been chewed by an infant at the bottom and there were no tablecloths on the table. I requested chicken strips, on a Wednesday night just for a starter, and was told they were out. Once the food I ordered was delivered it came in a Paperboard Basket without any silverware. Since the waiter was making drinks and I didn't want my food to get cold, I had to go to the bar and request the silverware for the table. The waiter eventually brought one set for the 2 of us, so we shared that one set. You probably get it by now......we had a terrible experience and will not ever, ever return or recommend to anyone we like, dislike or love.
