This is my absolute go-to place to eat every time I'm in the South Padre Island area. El Jefe has an excellent menu, and I can't say enough about their tacos—they are a must-try! I was also really pleased to see that they finally have a menu in English, which makes ordering so much easier. If you're looking for authentic and delicious food near the island, you can't go wrong with El Jefe.

Food is great but service cook was very rude, throwing the food in the bag. The girl only seemed to act like this with English speaking clients. Every one else was very nice. The girl is the one with extra lbs.

I would like to give it a 3 1/2 star rating but I can’t. The food unfortunately was tasteless to most of us. I ordered the Pancakes with egg, bacon & potatoes. The only thing I enjoyed was my pancakes.. those were good but a little cold. My potatoes were dry and cold.. the egg was like an egg substitute, flavorless. My bacon was very crispy again no flavor. The caldo had no flavor, no cabbage in it either & small portions for the price. The tacos were ok I guess . The mini pancakes well they were just small for the price. The food got eaten we were all hungry! The waiter never checked up on us for refills. Took a while to get our drink order so we quickly ordered our food when he finally approached our table. This was our 1st time there. Can’t say we would be returning. Sorry. Also, the ac vents are leaking nasty dirty water onto us or one of us and at the table. I made sure to move and mk sure the water doesn’t go in our food. Chips and salsa, small portion but the salsa was tasty.

I stopped here on my drive back home from the beach for some quick breakfast tacos. They were definitely quick the tortillas or homemade and yummy. That salsa was hot and delicious. The only thing that was not a five star was that I asked for beans in the tacos that I ordered It looked like I got a teaspoon of beans in each taco barley I need to taste

I’ve been from Edinburg to south padre everything in between. These is the first authentic Mexican restaurant I’ve had. Extremely delicious! The spices are amazing!!! Finally something tasty.
The flour tortillas were delicious and definitely tasted hand made! Unfortunately, the meat (we ordered dishes with beef fajita and chicken) was not the quality we are used to. It seemed very poor quality and we were not able to eat most of what we ordered. The waitress was very sweet and attentive.

Atmosphere is not too exciting or fest, but the food is pretty good and that I had the enchiladas and they were quite tasty. And I guess the waiter wasn't to experience cuz he didn't refill our tees or our water or check on us. But the food was pretty good
