We ordered everything on the menu and shared family style. If I have to pick one thing it would be a difficult decision. Everything was delicious. 10 out of 10 đđŒ
Redbird BBQ â The Standard in SETX/Texas Barbecue In the ever-competitive world of Texas barbecue, where smoke, time, and tradition rule, Redbird BBQ in Port Neches has emerged as a powerhouse, recently crowned #4 in Texas Monthlyâs Top 50 BBQ Joints. After experiencing their BBQ, itâs clear this recognition is not just deservedâit might be understated. This is barbecue done with soul, precision, and an eye for excellence that places Redbird among the stateâs elite. From the moment you get in line, to when you walk in the doors, you know youâre in for something special. When you receive your tray, youâre receving a beautiful mosaic of smoked meats, comforting sides, house-made touches, and thoughtful accoutrements that tell you: this place doesnât cut corners. Youâre greeted by Amir and his staff and given samples as you place your order. I choose 1lb of brisket, ribs, turkey, 2 garlic jalapeno cheddar sausages, 1 pint of red beans & rice, 1 pint of scalloped potatoes, Caesar slaw, rolls and tallow butter. The Meats Brisket - The brisket at Redbird is, in a word, phenomenal. Both fatty and lean slices are offered, and each tells a different part of the story. The bark is deeply caramelized, smoky, and laced with coarse black pepper. The rendered fat glistens, the texture suggests a great balance between melt-in-your-mouth fattiness and just enough structure to hold a slice. The meat yields under a gentle tug, offering up intense beef flavor. Itâs the kind of brisket that earns loyalty with one bite. This is a pitmaster flex. Ribs - These ribs are textbook Texas style that are lacquered with a glistening glaze and show a vibrant pink smoke ring that speaks to hours of low-and-slow attention. That clean bone peek suggests a tug, not a fall-off-the-bone finish â exactly what you want in competition-level ribs. No mushy ribs here. The peppery rub bark thatâs caramelized finishes with just a whisper of sweetness, giving you complexity in every bite. Packs a punch of sweet heat. Turkey - Turkey can easily fall into dryness, but not here. Redbirdâs turkey breast is smoked to juicy perfection. Itâs thick-sliced, tender, and well-seasonedâsmoke-infused but still letting the natural flavor of the bird shine. The peppery bark is locked in and makes this a sleeper hit among the heavier meats. Sausage - This sausage isnât an afterthought. The jalapeño and garlic hit immediately, balanced by the creamy melt of cheddar and the savory snap of the casing. Juicy, spicy, cheesy, and deeply satisfying. Burnt ends - These are the bite-sized crown jewels of the tray. Intensely flavorful, bark-heavy, and incredibly rich, they melt in your mouth. A perfect mix of fat and char, delivering that luxurious âmeat candyâ experience true BBQ fans chase. If Iâm next to you in line and you pass on these samples, Iâm judging you and taking your samples. The Sides â Thoughtful, Comforting, and Elevated Red beans & rice - A nod to the regionâs Cajun roots, this side is more than a fillerâitâs a full-flavored, smoky, and slightly spicy dish that could easily stand on its own. These beans have had time to meld and absorb flavor, the rice is tender, and flecks of smoked meat bring it into the BBQ realm. Scalloped potatoes - Decadent and over-the-topâin the best way possible. Sliced potatoes in a rich cheese make this a standout. Velvety, buttery, rich, creamy and deeply comforting - that pairs beautifully with smoked meat. The golden crust and tender slices make this an indulgent favorite. Caesar slaw - A creative and refreshing take on slaw. Crunchy cabbage, Caesar dressing, parmesan, and house-made croutons (from their house made rolls) come together to cleanse the palate and add texture. This is a brilliant side choice, cutting the richness of the meats with tang and crunch. Rolls - Soft, pillowy, and baked in-house, theyâre perfect for sopping up juices or building impromptu sandwiches. You donât need a slice of old white bread when you have these. Perfect to smear with their tallow butter. Tallow butter - This little ramekin
10/10 best brisket Iâve ever had
Finally got to try this place today and I am impressed. They were out of brisket (about 12:30pm) as well as a few other things I wanted to try but I ended up with turkey, chopped beef and a couple of ribs along with the potato salad and Caesar slaw. Iâm a potato salad snob and they surpassed my standards! It was perfect. The Caesar slaw was delicious as well. I donât think Iâve ever had anything quite like it. The meat was very good and tender and the sauce was a tangy mustard-y Carolina style that I loved. It was about $30 for meat, two sides and a 20 oz Dr. Pepper but I have enough leftovers for two more meals so I am a happy girl. Definitely recommend!
I finally got in to Redbird BBQ. I got the meat sampler! May I just say my family and I were blown away! It was amazing and their take on cole slaw is delicious!!! Also, the owner and employees were so nice and hospitable. THANK YOU!! Absolutely 10 out of 10!! We will be back!!
We had a wonderful experience! Number 1 in BBQ hands down. Details matter and every ingredient was purposeful and complimentary. Hospitality/Fine dining tuning of perfect seasoning and blending smoke with love. Get in before the State realizes there is no more competition for number 1!
This place is awesome! The food is fantastic and the staff are very friendly. We ordered 5 different meats with 2 sides, rolls, and a drink for $83, which is about the same as ordering from anywhere else since we have enough food left over for a second or even a third meal.

I've fallen head over heels for this place. The owner and crew are so nice and personable and the food is absolutely divine. Best BBQ hands down!! Today was the first time in 3 years that me and my mom had pork ribs that tasted exactly like my dad's, who passed away from Covid in 2021. Thanks for giving us a great memory guys. Awesome job really.

A real hometown joint run by some fantastic people. The brisket and ribs may have been the best I've had in all 50 states. The turkey was super moist and flavorful. But what I've truly never had anywhere else was the Caesar Slaw which paired so well with the rich meats. Also the desserts were out of this world (banana pudding and chocolate chip bread pudding ?).
Bottom line, any place with a neon sign to let you know when they are sold out is somewhere you want to go out of your way to go and try.
Thanks for making my first Texas meal one to remember ?
