We were wandering around Laguna Vista and Rio Honda in early June 2023, and found this gem of a restaurant. The gals serving the food were so nice and the food was delicious! Perfect portions for each of us! Thanks Mary!!!
Mary is the best!! Her food is the best. Best tasting juicy fajitas. Best buttery tortillas. Best meaty cheesy enchiladas. The list goes on!!
Mary has been serving Rio Hondo for 45 years! The best Mexican cafe food in the Valley. If you want local food and support local owners….You must eat Mary’s Cafe! Grab some of her tacos on the way to go fishing out of Arroyo City! Will keep you full all day on Laguna Madre!
Don't waste your money at this place. Very hot inside. Coffee was old. Bacon isn't bacon. Bad service.Go to stripes instead. Staff doesn't want be there.
Good food
Expensive, 2 tacos & coffees almost $14. Service not good. No napkins, lady almost upset because we asked for coffee refills

Food did not live up to expectations I was told. Cash only, had to walk next door to use ATM. Service was absolutely horrible. Mary herself is quite rude. Very disappointed. Will make NO attempt to try to bilingually understand you. With so many Mexican restaurants down in South Texas why not go the extent to be better. Only reason Mary's is still in business is because of Rio Hondo itself, once there are other alternatives, it will go the way of the cart and buggy. Try it yourself.
This is a great little restaurant. The owner and staff are very nice. Their food is delicious and their service is excellent!!! What more can I say!!!?.
