Great neighborhood restaurant serving casual comfort food. The chicken fried steak was delicious. Another member of our party had the classic burger & was very happy with that choice. The menu is robust & the wait staff is very friendly & efficient. Would definitely go again.

My husband and I stopped in one day for brunch in this cute, clean little Cafe. We have lived in this area for 4yrs and never stopped in and tried it out. When you enter in the door, it doesn't have a smell to it at all besides the food smell, it was so clean and had spacious seating, cute decor on the walls. I have a sensitive nose, so if something smells I will leave but this place smelled just great to me. We had the fried zucchini for a appetizer ? it was delicious, the only thing I didn't like was it was round shaped and not strips of zucchini. But it wasn't a game changer to me, I found it tasty and crispy ?. I decided to have the burger and fries and a side of okra, which had just the right crispy to me. I found It all to be very yummy. My husband had a breakfast plate, which he enjoyed. We will be back someday ?

The biscuits covered in sausage gravy is really good. Service is also great. The waitresses are the same as before the pandemic started. It's good to see old faces and have a place where you feel at home.

I love love looooove this place. We've been here 3 times since we've moved to Royse City, and it's my favorite place to have breakfast at. We come almost every Saturday before going grocery shopping and it's always worth it. Their servers a nice, and funny. Their food is always on point. Their chicken fried chicken is massive and always fresh. The kids love their crapes, they say they're as good as the ones I make ? so that's gonna be good. We also love their skillets

Me and my family have been frequent guests at this place, dining there and it was always a good experience, but it all changed this morning when I decided to place a pickup order. 2 orders of crab cakes benedicts. ZERO crab - not even a trace! Only bread crumbs on both orders! Called and asked for a manager - he is not on duty until weekend! How can anyone with a conscience make those "crab cakes" knowingly without crab meat and give the food to us - and believe me when I tell you - normally their crab cakes are to die for with lump crab meat and not much else! So this isn't a case of "oh well their crab cakes suck"...this was a deliberate act by whoever made them that way! Total rip-off and will be my last visit to this place! Can no longer trust the cook and $14.25 times 2 can buy a whole lot of bread crumbs!!! Shame on whoever prepared this meal!

Is there an FDA guideline about handling food with bare hands? Went there today for the first time, was sat at a table in the back, behind the kitchen so we got a front row seat to exactly what goes on. If you have ordered a salad there or any kind of fruit, you have eaten food touched by a servers bare hands. Watched a couple servers prepare a salad with bare hands, grabbing the lettuce, tomatoes, croutons, cheese all while wiping their hands on their pants and touching more food to serve on the plate. Had bananas ordered for some pancakes and the server peeled the banana, held it and cut it in his bare hands before spreading the bananas on my pancakes. Didn’t get all the food I asked for, so it had to be removed from the ticket. No drink refills as they were slammed and had a 30 minute wait. When we finally got the food, it was cold and tasted old. No flavor in the waffles. And the bacon tastes like old cooking oil that hasn’t been changed in a long time. Will not be back.

Nice little diner. We went for lunch and decided to get the catfish. It was good but the cabbage and fried okra was better. We got seated right away and our food was delivered in a timely manner. Our server was very nice and friendly. Pricing is reasonable for these times. If you park in front, be aware of how dangerous it is to back out into traffic. We are only in Rockwall for the week so will probably not go back but if we lived close by, we would.

Sunday morning and the place was packed!! One table left for us. Walked right in, sat right down, had a coffee before I could get settled. The place was buzzing with workers flying to and fro, as well as pleasant conversations around the room. We ordered and had our food really quick for how busy they were. We ordered a skillet, eggs Benedict, a Belgium waffle, and pancake. The food was delicious and perfect. Loved this place. Good job y’all!!

Update to original review (still posted below). I visited Route 66 Diner again and had a completely different experience from my original visit. The original review below stands, but in this follow-up visit I am downgrading from 5 to 3 stars. On this visit my bacon was flavorful but served at room temp. My pancake was also at room temp (would not melt the butter). My friend ordered biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was so hard it was returned for another and the gravy was room temp. The replacement biscuit was better but still too hard - as if it had been sitting too long.I’m not a cook or a restaurant expert, but my two visits to this diner were night and day. The first visit was off the chart good. The second visit was no different than what I could get at any breakfast place including Denny’s, IHOP, etc. I will try Route 66 one more time because of the thick, flavorful bacon. If they can’t serve hot bacon and proper biscuits the next time - it will be my last time to go there. I hope they get it right next time.Original review:I tend to review places that are amazing or places that are terrible. Most places are in the middle somewhere so I don’t write many reviews for those places. Maybe I should…Anyway, Route 66 Diner (aka Lonestar 66 Diner/Cafe) is as good as it gets in my opinion. The bacon is thick and seasoned well. Applewood smoked link sausages. Good pancakes. And Segafredo coffee which I never heard of before I had it at Route 66. I give them big points for keeping a spotless dining area and restrooms. . And they open early (6am most days).I highly recommend Route 66 Diner.

Friendly service, excellent food and generous portions. We had a party of 19 for breakfast and were served very well! Highly recommend the Blackened Shrimp Omelette.

Came here with my parents, great environment, friendly, attentive wait staff, and the food was delicious! I had the chicken fried steak, eggs and the hash browns. My dad had the liver and onions with brussel sprouts and hash browns and my picky eater mother had buffalo wings with fries. So good! Highly recommend!

The atmosphere is amazing here! Unfortunately I did find a hair in my food but they were very considerate and sincerely apologized for it. They also offered to give me something else on the house but I was not interested. My waitress was also very sweet, she gave me her discount and small fruit bowl. The food looked so good and smelled even better! Despite the experience I had I would still recommend this place because of course accidents do happen.

I'm new to the diner, but have been half a dozen times over the past month for breakfast and have been happy every time. Good omelettes, Eggs Benedict, and pancakes! Totally recommend!

It's not bad. It's not that great. But it is expensive for what it is. They have a fly issue here and a greasy floor issue too. Cost $45 for two for breakfast with a tip. Not worth that kind of cash hands down. Probably first and last time.
