Over priced, small portions, not very tasty. Got BBQ sandwich. It had a lot of fat. It was $13. I was told that fries came with the sandwich. Then I was billed $2 for fries. My wife got the macaroni and cheese. She wasn't impressed. It was a very small serving.

I'm hesitant to write this review because finding this hidden gem and now writing about it may make them extremely busy. But here we are so settle in and let me tell you about a great cool place that I wish I had known about sooner. JW's Place is defintely worth finding!We walked in and you seat yourself, the owners daughter told us she'd be over with a couple menus except the owner beat her to it by a couple minutes. She then took our drink order and said our waitress Kayla would be over shortly to take our order.Kayla brought our drinks and took our order. My wife was between ribs and oxtail so she asked what she recommended (Which I kinda figured I would know the answer to). Kayla replied hands down the oxtail, she mentioned that it comes with either rice or mashed potatoes and two sides. My wife decided on the mashed potatoes which was definitely the right choice! Her other two sides were mac n cheese and cabbage. I ordered the smothered pork chop which came with rice (I think next time I'm going to see if I can substitute mashed potatoes because those were perfect, more on that later). Mine also came with two sides so I went with the okra & tomatoes and greens.As we waited they have tvs with various things playing all around the restaurant and some great music playing (Might have been a bit loud for the amount of people in the restaurant but not too loud). I saw that they are set up with a nice bar under what looks like some balcony seating, possibly a private party room or just additional seating for when they get busy. They also had a stage off to one side for live music.Our food arrives and talk about mouth watering. Everything looked great and smelled even better! We started by trying all the sides which was easy to do since they came in separate bowls. The okra and tomatoes were awesome, a bit salty but awesome! I ended up drinking the juice when I finished them. The greens... if they would have brought me more at the end of the meal I would have devoured them even though I was stuffed! That's how good they were and I actually told my wife I would do that exact thing when we were there. Her mac n cheese was creamy and cheesy like you want not overly done or chewy like you get at times. Her cabbage was tasty as well, done just right crisp and not cooked to death.Now for the entrees... I tried a bite of my smothered pork chop, the knife went thru it like butter. OMG the flavor... amazing, the cook on the chop... perfect. It had the perfect chew. Then I tried my wife's oxtail. It was melt in your mouth perfect! the sauce and mashed potatoes were the perfect accompaniment. Creamy mashed potatoes and oxtail you don't even have to chew all covered in an amazing sauce. I will say she won this round but not by much.We would have tried the peach cobbler if we had enough from to try it. Maybe next time, which there will definitely be a next time which could be this week as a matter of fact.I do hope I helped you decide if you'd like to give them a try cause they definitely deserve the patronage. They fry food to perfection here!They really have mastered the art of getting that food golden and crispy. I'm already craving more fried chicken, fried okra, and hot water cornbread! Be sure to also try the greens, mac and cheese, and those short ribs... They're sure to hit the spot.I also appreciated how the owner took time to walk us through the menu's offerings as well as some off-menu options. She has a super bubbly personality which made us feel like we were dining with family.I plan to go back to try the fried fish soon.

The food was amazing. I ordered a stuffed turkey leg, greens and some smoked pinto bean. It was delicious. I'll definitely be eating here again. I got uber eats, but next time I'll be going in.

They're still finding their way service wise, but the cook knows what's happening. Delicious! I had liver and onions, which not everyone is a fan of, but this was so good! My husband said the fish was moist and flaky at the same time. Best he's had in a while.

This food is the bomb. Best collard greens I’ve ever had. They even have a Smokey flavor to them. The oxtails are amazing. And the broccoli cheese rice is so good. Definitely will be back for more.

The music and the atmosphere was good, if you decide to go eat before you come so you wa t have to wait for an hour for your food. Service was trash, waitress Zenora had a horrible attitude didnt bring until we brought it to the owners attention. Still had to wait an additional 20 mins no apologize or anything

My only regret is that we haven't been here before! It's tucked away but don't let that deter you. I had the oxtails over mashed potatoes - so rich and unctuous. And so tender that the bones pulled out clean. As my mom used to say - it was hormonal! My sides were the mac and cheese (creamy and full of flavor) and cabbage which was simply seasoned and a green break from the richness of everything else. Hubby had smothered pork chops and may have tried to lick these plate clean. His sides were the okra and tomatoes and greens. I'll admit, I've never had that type of greens before and i could have had a whole plate of just that. Overall probably one of the best places we've been to in a long time. They truly care about what they serve.

The chicken on a bun was almost tasteless and had minimal smoke and seasoning.The greens lacked flavor, and could use another hour of cook time.They forgot part of our meal so we all had to share.It was very average.
The food was amazingI had the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collard greens. All I can say is it took me back to my grandma's back porch in Mississippi on a summer night with all the family. My husband had the chicken and waffles and he said it was really good.The young lady that waited on us was so nice and friendly. She did a great job.If you haven't been here yet, get here fast!!! I would call this a little bit of Heaven right here in Conroe.

Awesome place!!!The atmosphere, food and service are all top-notch.We had the Soul Food La La Plate as a sampler so that we could decide what we wanted to order. Everything was good. Even the BBQ has their touch of Soul.It's not just a restaurant, it was an experience. Everyone helps out to make you feel like part of the family. This was our first visit. We will be back.
