Melanie and Mike are hands down some of the best restaurant owners I know! Always so attentive and knowledgeable and friendly! Called in tonight about an hour ahead asking for a reservation of about 20 people, Melanie got us in and we had a wonderful time celebrating my mom’s birthday tonight! Brooke and Kaitlyn were amazing waitresses and were beyond professional and kind! Love having this elevated restaurant experience in our small town!

Met my son there for his birthday. I called before hand to ask if we could bring a cake, she put me on hold came back and said it was fine that they couldn’t store it in the fridge and there’s a cake cutting fee. That’s all she said. I assumed if they cut the cake and served it there would be a fee(which is weird) because the place is so expensive to begin with. So we cut our own cake and served it. Got the bill and they charged us $25, $5 a person because we used their plates and forks and her staff has to wash them. After talking to the owner she discounted $12.50 because we ordered a dessert. The hostess should’ve gave more details of the fee and why they charge it. I wouldn’t had brought in a cake or brought in my own forks and plates, not sure if they charge for throwing the paper plates away. Also I ordered party in a cup(coffee with Bailey’s) when I drink liquor I get flushed face turns really red for like 2 minutes. I got the coffee and took a drink, nothing no taste of liquor no smell of liquor and no redness. I asked the waitress about it she again got the owner. The owner brought me a shot to put in it, as soon as I took a drink face turned red.. they made it right but still it was strange. Food was good. I’d split the chicken fried steak and share it, it’s huge(huge as in takes up the entire plate even spilt it’s still big) but they also charge $5 to split it.$5 for bread and butter.. nothing is commentary at all. Place was okay, not fancy at all just ordinary. Drink menu was decent(not sure on how much liquor they put in drinks)… We won’t be back but we like to try new places, we tried it.

Stopped in here on our way to buy Tarleton merchandise for our granddaughter and oh my goodness! We had breakfast on a Saturday morning and it was so delicious. Pecan French toast, warm pecan syrup, served with pecan coffee, a true Texas experience. We are anxious to come back and try lunch or dinner!

Service was very slow. Kitchen severity undercooked my steak even after waiting a long time for it to come out. Then they return my streak pretty quickly but it was overcooked. I just ate it very hungry at that point. They only upside to this establishment is most of the food had good flavor.

If it wasn’t for our waitress we would have just walked out. Waited over 2 hours for a cold, undercooked steak. Then the manager proceeds to tell us that they were busy and our reservation should not have been accepted even though we made it two months ago. Could be a good place , but don’t go when they are busy. Saw lots of steaks being sent back to the kitchen.

The restaurant was nice...atmosphere was good, waitress very attentive, and menu had plenty of options to cover our group's taste. We had a reservation for 11 people (made 2 months in advance). Everything started off fine, but after ordering we found out after waiting over 1.5 hours that they did not have enough ribeye steaks. So we had to order a different cut..not a huge deal, but not sure why it took them so long to mention this. We continued to wait for our food. Finally, when our food did arrive (after waiting 2 hours), it was room temperature at best. My son's steak was very under cooked. Someone in oir group ordered salmon with asparagus...everything cold. We ate our food because we had been waiting for 2 hours and were starving! We spoke to the owner's wife and explained the issues. She in turn shifted the problem on us! Stating that they were busy and that everyone's food was delayed. Then she stated that they should not have booked a reservation for that night because they knew they would be busy!!! Wouldn't a reservation give you more of a heads up? They kept saying "sorry" but would give an excuse (Sorry, but you shouldn't have been able to book a reservation. Sorry, but we had 180 people.) and expected us to be OK with this. We tipped the waitress well and expressed our appreciation for her efforts. The owners were unprofessional, borderline rude and even though the food had the potential of being good...eating a steak, mashed potatoes and squash at room temperature, cold grilled salmon, cold asparagus, and an extremely under cooked steak is an issue. Out of 11 meals, only one person was happy with their meal. If you go somewhere and pay for a service, you would still expect things to be done correctly even if you were busy! Yes, you may have to wait longer than usual, but the quality should be the same no matter what...that is what you are paying for. It should not be the customer's problem that you are busy and not prepared. They did give us a break on the price, but still kept bringing up the fact that they were busy and they weren't sure how we even got a reservation.

Our office holiday meal here was excellent! First, the planning was easy with responsive communication from Melanie. The hardest part was choosing which delicious food to include. Second, the atmosphere and service were outstanding. New chairs and black tablecloths with just the right amount of cozy winter decor. Third, the cocktail menu is inventive and extensive. Finally - and most importantly- the food. Everything was perfect. Flavorful steaks cut with a butter knife. Chipotle mashed potatoes. Decadent dessert. The food here never disappoints.

I came in here with average expectations and was surprised to meet the best bartender with a great selection of spirits and cocktails, and even better food! Steaks you can cut with your FORK! And flavor profiles that will blow you away…rustic and ridiculously amazing. What the heck are they doing in Stephenville, TX??

Dietary restrictions: The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my food allergies. Chef Mike Newton came out and discussed alternatives to menu options and checked on our table throughout the course of the evening ( without being intrusive ) making the experience quite enjoyable. The meal was well worth the price and the atmosphere is lovely. I recommend dining in the bar area. The booths are cozy and the decor is just the right amount of western without being overdone. Last but certainly not least Melanie ( Chef’s wife ) is absolutely the best !!! She was so friendly not only to our table but greeted and took time speak with every table/guest despite being on wait. Overall a wonderful evening!

We can’t say enough good things about Chef Newton and Newton’s Saddlerack! The food is amazing and Chef is charming and funny. I guess if I was going to find one negative thing to say it would be that my stomach simply isn’t big enough to eat everything I want to order!
