Mama Wu’s is one of the best spots to get Taiwanese-style railroad bentos in the Houston Area! Hidden in Jusgo Supermarket Sugar Land, this mom-and-pop shop offers affordable and authentic Taiwanese eats. I really enjoy the Taiwanese sausage, pork chop, and roasted chicken bento boxes. There’s not much seating, but it’s a good place to buy togo to bring home for lunch and dinner. Also, they usually close during the summers for a few months because the owners go back to Taiwan.

Fried fish was overcooked and left out too long before serving. After paying, with minor miscommunication, the man at registration proceeded to mad dog our group. If they wanted us to never come back, they got their wish.Oh, but the pickled vegetables, sautéed cabbage, egg, and rice were okay.

This is a no frills Taiwanese kitchen, but the food is awesome! There are not too many Taiwanese foods/restaurants in Houston, so it's great to see authentic taiwanese-style foods. I love the pepper pastry they make, and they almost always sell out before I get there. I have had the braised pork belly bento, and it is good. The frozen items are good as well, but you will have to reheat them at home. They are located in a stall before you get into the Jusgo market in Sugarland. Note that they are closed Mondays and Thursdays.

One of our favorite places! Is inside the Jusgo plaza, does not have very obvious signage from the outside. Cheap and so homey and delicious. We have literally tried every single bento option, and you can’t go wrong with any of them! Personal favorites are the fish or chicken filets. Also the pepper bun is delicious! It has a meaty juicy filling inside a flaky crust. Pro tip, eat here and then go to Mia’s around the corner for dessert!

The last few years have not been kind to the Taiwanese food scene in the Houston area, as the decline has been felt across the city and surrounding suburbs. Mama Wu's is among the few Taiwanese owned and operated shops in the area and is stationed in the restaurant stalls within JusGo Supermarket. They specialize in meat over rice combos and a small number of Taiwanese style pastries, which are two things I haven't really seen anywhere else in the area.(#1) It's all so simple, yet unique at the same time. Best of all, everything is stellar and they are incredibly deserving of their success thus far. Pork chop over rice (排骨飯), one of the island's most classic dishes, is outstanding here. Other dishes, such as their chicken fillet (雞排) fish fillet (魚排), braised pork belly, and even boneless pork chop is downright delicious and pairs so well with the cabbage and rice. Throw in a side of their Taiwanese sausage (台灣香腸) and even one of their pastries (mung bean + meat is my fave) and it'll be a wonderful meal. While speaking Chinese is not a requirement, knowing any Mandarin will make things easier. Cash is encouraged, however, credit card is also doable. There isn't a lot of seating, but the vibe is as homey as can be. I feel the future is bright for them and the Houston food scene only gets better with them in it. ____________ (#1) Yes, really.
