I came here with great expectations, but felt let down... (my first visit)

So giving few stars as the food tastes good. I have been here 2 times. It is very oily food, so be careful if you are on a diet watch. Place is famous, there are pictures of stars visiting here, so they are not amenable to feedback as they have been in business for a long time. Inside does not look that pretty, most spots you would sit are clustered and tight, spacious spots always say reserved but I have never seen anyone there until end of day- so I don't understand this. Servers are ok, except for one who is very rude and would say anything anytime. This does not happen when the owner is there. I stopped going as I saw cockroaches inside and outside the restaurant door and that really keeps me away from this place now.

Wonderful place, few items but it is all very tasty. The place is neat and the staff are all very polite. Great price too!

This was my first time here and really my first time at an Indian restaurant. I had zero idea what I was doing but the lovely lady who greeted us at the door kindly answered my questions about food meeting my dietary requirements, took me to the buffet and pointed out the foods and condiments I was able to eat and taught me which items compliment the other. This was an amazing meal and she went above and beyond to make it a great experience. Loved EVERY SINGLE BITE! Amazing!!

Terrible food and services. The owner would not switch on the Air Conditioning in 100+ degree to save cost on electricity. The place has been due to major overhaul for a long-time. I highly recommend Food Standard Agency to make inspection ASAP and take necessary actions.

Vegetarian. Delicious and flavorful! Quick service. What's not to like!?

Lunch buffet was decent and the service was good. Great South Indian food.

Horrible customer service. Very understaffed. I went during busy lunch time and there were only 3 employees (host, waiter, and chef) who were all very unorganized. The ac was broken so for the whole restaurant they had 3 tower fans on that couldn't even rotate in order to keep all the customers eating cool. Others including myself ended up leaving some of our food uneaten because the heat was unbearable. When asked for take out boxes they ignored us and kept working.

It was really quite good. I think a bit of updating and cleaning would go a long way.

In the last year or so, the food quality slipped way way down. Today, both rice dishes were cold. Entrees felt like over salted soups. Mostly liquid (and salt). Even the cut fruit tasted moldy. And $6.99 each for a 4 and a 6 yo who barely ate a few grains of bone dry cold recycled rice was kind of steep and unfair. We complained to the owner lady, hoping for a small courtesy discount that may make us give this place one more try after this. A discount must have never crossed her mind. She just said “sorry!” How greedy and short-sighted.

As a vegan this place is a gem!!! Top to bottom the service and food are fantastic. Some of the most flavorful food I've ever had. I'm so mad I don't live here.

Enjoyed food from menu as most of it was ethnic comfort food well prepared. Buffett didn't appeal to me and guests. Bathrooms are in bad need of update.

Very good vegetarian food. Had Udipi buns, Mangalore bhajji, chole batura, set dosa and poori, with family. Have some picky eaters but they also liked the food. Recommend Udipi buns.

First impression is not the lasting impression. 4 years back when we first visited Udipi in Sugar Land, we were not impressed with the buffet spread. But things changed when we stopped by for dinner a few months later, we have been hooked since then. The best items on their menu that we have tried are - Chana Bhatura (there chana bhature is the best in Houston), Shahi paneer, Masala Dosa, Paper Masala Dosa, Uttapam, Express Thali. Their weekend buffet is also awesome. Nice spread with many options to choose from. Udipi has become our go to place when we are in the mood for south Indian or vegetarian food.
