Umami Japanese Restaurant

Update: we took the whole family for sushi this time around and everyone loved it. They have great quality sushi rolls and amazing deserts, probably best cream brûlée in town. Great family friendly atmosphere or to go with friends!

My favorite restaurant in Riverstone in Sugar Land! The service is super attentive, and they offer fresh Japanese fish that’s hard to find in Southwest Houston. Their crudo and carpaccio menu is excellent. This is one of my go-to places when I’m craving high-quality sushi in Sugar Land.

Kid-friendliness: We don’t have small children but we often see kids there. We bring our teenage sons there and they love it.

Absolute Shame! If you like terrible service, then this is your place!
The sushi and dishes are delicious, fresh, and well thought out, however the staff ruins the experience! I have been to Umami 2 dozen times and the service is consistently horrible. They make you feel like you are an imposition. The staff visibly argues with each other and the lady behind the bar is so rude that I don't even want to go back or even order carry out! It's really awful that the staff can bring a restaurant down like this.

absolutely love this place Sushi is professionally made Proper Japanese Nigeria This place is very clean and hygienic Friendly and fast service I highly recommend this Japanese restaurant for those sushi lovers been a regular since 4 year And they are definitely keeping it up noch I Recommend the Niger the fish is perfectly sliced thinly as Nigeria should be Unlike most places, they don’t really know how to cut the fish for a good nigiri Anyways, this is your place ❤️

Food is not so great maybe they are slow ? Ingredients is not fresh. Also owner lady Jennifer is worst service ever. Cheap sushi from market is better taste

Smallish restaurant, but the food was great. Music was a bit louder than ideal, it should be background ambient music and not loud. The food was fresh and delicious. This place MAY be our new goto for sushi. Everything was delicious.

Nice place. Premium prices but the quality is good. They are adding modern toppings on sushi but not overpowering. Rice quality and prep was good.

Umami is great. The staff are very friendly and not obtrusive. The chef always picks wonderful cuts of fish. They consistently have a great selection. Their creations are always a treat. The Brussel sprouts are a favorite side as is their gyoza and edamame. I really enjoy their seaweed salad it’s one of the only ones where it has been entirely items from the sea. Their wagyu is melt in your mouth. The atmosphere is great playing some random but hip popular music. A great place to unwind.

The BEST sushi in the Houston, Missouri City, Sugarland area. The food is delicious, service is consistently top tier, and the happy hour is bomb. Small, quaint and peaceful little neighborhood gem. Highly recommend.
