Great find! Loved the rolls we ordered, specifically the Dracula and Pink Lady - very fresh tasting and unique flavors! Will come back to try different rolls

We decided to go Friday even for a quick bite and was looking for a new to us sushi place and we found Umami on Yelp had good reviews so figured why not. The restaurant is decorated nicely with a nice atmosphere. The service was impeccable as we were being check on quite frequently. As for the food , it was awesome, from the rolls to the freshly sliced fish. So if your over in Riverstone or find your self out that way stop in a give them your $$, you won't regret it.

Very nice staff. Fresh food and fresh seafood and sushi. I would come back here anytime I am craving sushi!

I've had sushi here a couple of times and it's always great ! It's a small but very cozy and elegant restaurant. The staff is very humble and always attentive. I enjoy it every time !

Second visit was just as good as the first! The brussel sprouts are to die for. Our favorite roll is the Umami roll. Garlic and butter edamane - yum. The decor is beautiful and the service is so attentive and pleasant. We love this place!

Good, but overpriced. The restaurant has a classier vibe, and is a good date night or family spot in Riverstone (I would not bring younger kids here). We ordered the halibut carpaccio, the nemo roll (I added cream cheese), udon, and shaggy dog roll. For the price, the portion size of the halibut carpaccio was extremely underwhelming. The 5 incredibly thin slices, although disappointing when brought out, tasted great. The rolls were good, but the udon left something to be desired. If budget is not a concern, this is a solid spot. The service was great, but I could get the same quality of food for much cheaper in Bellaire, so I will not be returning.

NO! More Taiwanese than Japanese. This place like many is not authentic and completely misrepresents the cuisine. Toro is the Kobe equivalent of Tuna. Very fatty with a distinct taste. It is also fairly pricey. This place, like most in the burbs offers Blue Fin Toro. LMAO. Blue Fin is a different species. The belly of a Blue Fin, like all fish, is the fattiest and most flavorful part. They advertise and sell Blue Fin Toro. No such thing and these species do not interbreed. It is a restaurants way to overprice their offering to an unsuspecting customer. Its like ordering Kobe Beef Filet and getting Angus Filet for the same price. Similarly, they advertise Kanpachi. Kanpachi is Greater Amberjack and from the Pacific. This is regular Gulf Amberjack. And, then there are drink prices...$3 for a coke. All around disappointing!

My experience at Umami in Sugar Land was a tale of two tastes. The nigiri sushi shone brilliantly, boasting freshness and precision that satisfied my discerning palate. Each piece was a testament to the chef's skill and dedication to quality. However, the journey took an interesting turn with the more contemporary rolls. While creativity is often welcome, some rolls had a bit too much going on, creating a symphony of flavors that occasionally clashed rather than harmonized. It felt like an attempt to push the boundaries, but simplicity might have been a more elegant route. The ambiance was pleasant, and the service attentive. The diverse menu offers a range of options, appealing to both traditional and adventurous sushi enthusiasts. In summary, Umami in Sugar Land excels in the art of nigiri sushi, but the contemporary rolls might benefit from a more refined approach. If you're a sushi purist, you'll likely find joy in the carefully crafted nigiri selection. I will certainly be back to try more of the nigiri and hopefully find a roll that suits my tastes!

We managed to sneak in on a Wednesday a few minutes before happy hour ended and they were kind enough to do last call for us. Decently large selection of dishes, LOTs of roll options. The happy hour is from 12-6 pm so a huge window as I learned. As the other reviews say the portion of fish is well sized and way better quality than I was expecting. The roll we got was delicious (I'm blanking on the name) but had spicy salmon inside and white tuna on top. We also got some chicken karaage which was not my favorite due to the texture. Not super crispy like a traditional karaage dish usually is. But the rest of what we got was very good. I think I have a new bang for your buck sushi place close to home.I would definitely wanna come during HH so I can try more things out.Service was okay, but our servers were very nice. The restaurant is large and has your standard table and booth seating.

We've been going here since they opened and have loved it ever since. Even our 2 year old toddler would crave their shrimp tempura or their udon bowl at least once a week! They introduced us to a grade of nigiri that is above and beyond. On par with the fancy sushi restaurants in town. If you're a nigiri fan then do try their selection! Even the weekend special such as "Flight to Japan" is a steal! What a blessing it is to have this neighborhood gem.

Been here twice already. Staff has always been wonderful and nice to my wife and I, along with whomever we bring. For what my wife gets, she loves it, but for what I usually get, it’s not too shabby. I don’t get anything crazy, spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls, nothing fancy. Service is pretty fast, food and drinks come out quickly. Overall, we would eat here again in the future whenever we’re craving some sushi.

I had the OMG roll. It came in a casserole. So that was weird. There were rice cakes (?) All around it on the edges of the dish. I was not a fan of these.. too chewy. The actual roll was pretty good. I am gluten free (sensitivity). And one of the people that work there (not our waiter) came up to us and yelled about how "kani is gluten." I was bewildered. First if all, the first ingredient is something like white fish, second of all, it's just a sensitivity, third of all, she ruined the vibes with her know it all (but obvioualy doesn't) attitude.
