Sadly, this restaurant is permanently closed. The owner recently died and they never recovered the sales from pre-Covid. The family of the owner decided to shut down.

Excuse the expression..
My two times experiencing this place
Before I begin I was told that they were anti black, racist, however it the shoe fits…
(To go order from counter)
My good white friends ordered from this place before and food was excellent I do like the food, my white friends said they are very good nice and friendly people.
(Other people told me they were racist)
When I and a fellow white friend of mine went to see if the racist allegations were true
We came in the same vehicle and I got out first to ask about an application, I was told they didn’t have any available at the time.

{note a white family went in the establishment before I did}

(And the host put up one finger to the family and said one moment before seeing what I was there for)

When I went back to my car
We waited like 2 minutes
Then my white friend went in and came out with a application

Hubby and I went here for date night wanting to try something new. I don't know if every night is like this, but we definitely felt out of place because everyone in there was well over 60 years old. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying it's an older crowd. Hubby had steak, baked potato, and salad. The steak was tender and delicious. It was perfectly cooked. The potato was good, and the ranch dressing was tasty as well. My food on the other hand.... I ordered the chicken picatta. It is not chicken picatta by any stretch of the imagination. They need to rename it or remove it from the menu. It was chicken with no seasoning swimming in a cream sauce. The cream sauce had no flavor at all. It tasted like they heated up heavy whipping cream and poured it over. The rice pilaf tasted like what comes out of a box. The rolls were good, but I'm pretty sure they didn't make those. I found the food to be expensive for what you get. Our waitress was friendly but we ordered crab cakes for appetizer and we never got them. Hostess was friendly. Restaurant was clean as were their restrooms.

Walking into Gus’s the host spoke and sat us at a table which we prefer booth. Sitting us quickly walking away not the usual “ enjoy your meal”. I quickly asked her if we could get a booth. The host gathering our menus and silverware heading over to a booth, placing it down and walking off again. I ordered the Pontchartrain, hun ordered the Ribeye steak burger . The burger was satisfying to my husband but from someone that likes their food seasoned well, was very disappointed in the Pontchartrain. The fish was cooked , the shirmp was cooked. Smoothed with white gravy that didn’t work well for me. I order a California Blend of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots , wanting the broccoli mostly I received broccoli stems with one floret. The baked potatoe was the only thing I found pleasant alone with our waitress Hope ?. Thank you for being kind and thoughtful. The total experience was disappointing. Don’t think I’ll return. First impression is a lasting impression ?.
