Worst service I have ever received. How dare you ask for a tip! Get your own water, stand in line to order, and get a nasty look from the staff any time you ask for anything. Leave condiments on the table if you're that lazy! Completely disgusting level of dust on the lamp shades and walls. I made the mistake of touching a light. So I had to wash my hands immediately, and of course, the bathrooms had toiletries all over the floor. I have no idea why my friends recommend this place.
Went with a group for lunch. The salmon was overcooked and very dry. Mashed potatoes and zucchini were good. Caesar salad was good. Chocolate eruption cake was not what I expected (I may have not read the description?). I figured it was like an individual lava cake, but it was a slice. It was tasty - very rich. Servers were not particularly attentive to drink refills. For the price I will go elsewhere in the future.
Brilliant eggs Benedict. Great omelets.
We booked the Black Walnut Cafe for our wedding reception. Good price for great quality.
We had a great experience working with Janine. She was always quick to reply to our messages/calls and she was great about addressing our questions and concerns. The set up of the room was beautiful. It was much more than we expected.
The day of the event went forward without any snags. Melissa, Madison, and Angie were excellent. They were very helpful and knew how to manage our event. Top notch customer service.
I will definitely look to Black Walnut Cafe for my future event needs.
This is an updated review. It's a nice facility with a nice bar and plenty of parking. And you can get a good, reasonably-priced meal here. And the service has improved dramatically.
This is a place where you order at the counter, take a buzzer, then pick up the order when the buzzer goes off. Invariably there is a line when ordering because the orders are taken so slowly and many people aren't ready to order when it's their turn. As a result of this, when we go, we try to go at times when it will not be crowded so that we won't have to endure a long wait in the line.
It used to be that you had to pick up your order at the counter and carry it to your table. However, a few years ago, the restaurant began to have waiters bring your food to your table. This works much better than the old system and makes for less congestion in the restaurant.
So, the bottom line is this - good food, reasonably priced, with much improved service. Highly recommend.
Erica was awesome and Joel is the best
We were visiting from Dallas and decided to stop by the Black Walnut Cafe since our local Allen location sadly closed. Let me just say — it was absolutely worth the drive! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, clean, and full of charm. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel right at home. You can tell they care about customer service here — they were attentive without being overbearing, and every interaction felt genuine.
We ordered a couple of breakfast items and were blown away by how fresh and flavorful everything was. I had the omelette, and it was cooked to perfection — fluffy, packed with delicious ingredients, and seasoned just right. My guest ordered one of the Benedicts (the Blackstone), and it was equally impressive. The eggs were perfectly poached, the hollandaise was silky and flavorful, and the crispy bacon gave it the perfect texture. The portion sizes were generous, but not overwhelming — definitely a great value for the quality of food you’re getting.
Another thing we appreciated was how smoothly the whole experience went. The food came out hot and quickly, and we never felt rushed. The ambiance is ideal for a relaxed brunch or even a casual business meeting. You can enjoy a gourmet meal in a laid-back setting without the fuss of a high-end restaurant.
Overall, we were really impressed. It’s clear that Black Walnut Cafe hasn’t lost its touch — even though the Allen location is no longer around, this visit more than made up for it. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in town. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a consistently delicious brunch spot with top-tier service!
The food, drinks and service were good but wasn’t a fan of the ordering process. Had to order first and then sit. Avocado bacon Benedict was really good
Interesting. You can walk up and order then someone will bring it to you or sit down and a waiter will come take you order. The food was slow getting to us. It was good once we got it. The waiter/waiters kept checking on us, so we were not ignored. Very nice dining area.
Went here for dinner the day before Memorial Day. Either the restaurant has gone downhill or the cook staff was just having a bad day. It had been a few years since we’ve eaten here. My husband had the roast beef and potatoes and said it was full of gristle. No vegetable came with it. Mom and I had salads with bitter tasting lettuce. They had put the toppings on the plate first and then dumped a whole bunch of lettuce on top of them. It took some effort to get to anything besides the lettuce. My Sante Fe salad had mango which was the texture and taste of canned peaches. I think it had come from a can. And the corn that was supposed to be roasted tasted like something directly out of the can. The dressing was gross and left a garlicky taste in my mouth. We all decided to go out and get ice cream to get the taste of dinner out of our mouths. It was sad to get such bad meals at what we once thought was a nice restaurant. The restaurant itself looks great but smells a little musty like it may have been flooded.

My experience at the Black Walnut cafe was nothing short of extraordinary. Sitting at the bar chatting with the bartender Marissa was a great way to start my Sunday. She made sure that my coffee was always hot, and the food came out quickly and was delicious too!
If you need a wake up call, sitting at Marissa’s bar at the Black Walnut cafe is a great way to start any day. 😁
Good experience!
Large event (50 people), great food & wonderful service.
Paige was amazing!! Super fast and accommodating service. My coffee came right after I ordered. Will come again!
I would NOT dine here again. My husband's stack of pancakes came out with a long black hair intertwined into the perfectly scooped butter ball on top of the stack. My potatoes and eggs were barely warm when I received my plate and for the last straw a gnat was on the side of my orange juice glass.
I will say, the manager reimbursed for the hairy pancakes, but we left in disgust from this location.
Great healthy options for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
