After reading reviews, we decided on lunch at Mama Francis Soul Kitchen. This was a great decision. The folks were wonderful and made us feel like family. The food is among the best we’ve ever had. My husband doesn’t eat cornbread normally. He ate all of his and part of mine. (Due to an allergy, I couldn’t eat mine.) Our food was all fresh and delicious. My Oxtails and Gravy and my husband’s Smothered Steak were both the best ever. Any time we travel between Houston and Galveston, we’ll plan on lunch in La Marque at Mamma’s. I highly recommend this to everyone.

We love soul food and this is BEST we've ever had!! Started out with huge serving of delicious complimentary cornbread. Hubby had a cup of gumbo (which he said was excellent), smothered steak, which you could cut with a fork...his sides were mixed greens & sweet corn. I enjoyed meatloaf, mashed potatoes, lima beans & mac n cheese....all wonderful!! Niece had smothered pork chops, which is one of their specialty dishes...absolutely delish!! Took coconut pie and banana pudding home for later. Owners were so friendly and accommodating...just can't say enough good things about this place!!
