Great place to take your family. Beautiful building, and good food.
Was told to we would get free ice cream with each entree and we was charged for them.

Changed to a 4 star. Owner refunded the money.
It should have never happened considering not only did the promise come from the owners mouth but they have cards on the table that say it also.

So we went for dinner. The building is clean and rustic. Bathrooms are in a building you go outside to get to attached to the side of the restaurant. They were also clean and updated decor. The decor was pretty in the main area and I liked the vibe. There was some items for sale too for "swag". There were people seated waiting on their food and one couple in front of us. I can see how this would quickly fill up on busy times. There is a picnic deck out back for seating. I had trouble reading the menu because my eyes are not great so I was able to get a printed one which helped a lot. They have some different choices. You order at the front counter, it is not table service traditionally but they do bring you the food to your table. I cleaned up our mess though and tossed all trash. Usually this goes with tipping as far as traditional table service. The owner guy was very nice. I smiled at some of the ladies and they didn't smile back though. The ladies at the red wagon actually talk to me and recognized us patronizing other parts of the homestead heritage over the years. It is nice to be a known customer. The man who said he was the owner was really nice and seemed personable. We were asked for a tip before service was given which I don't like at all at ANY establishment. Usually you tip based on service not on expectation. I did it because at the homestead and red wagon restaurants they are usually very great and attentive and the homestead restaurant is table service and they clean tables too. Tips in general are becoming expected in general so I really am not a fan of the expectation and like to see what service I get for the tip on top of the purchase price. I love the homesteads and we have been going there for years, like the red wagon bbq place and so on which seems tied to the waco waffle co. The whole property feels very safe. Parking was pretty full so we parked by the inn since we didn't know if grass parking was okay. We didn't want to be disrespectful. During ordering I asked for condiments to be left off my meal and they were not when brought to me. We explained that to the lady who brought the meal and it the bread was changed but a little was still on the sandwich it was fine a little isn't bad but there seemed to be communication mishap between ordering and the meal preparer. It was not a huge deal. The food choices were different not the same old stuff and I really appreciate that. The food was good and my teens loved the chicken. My autistic son who is incredibly picky liked their food too. We were told about a "deal" for free ice cream if you leave a review. My teens of course jump online before even eating and give a 5 star to get the free ice cream. After cleaning up from dinner we went to get ice cream and the cashier laughed when we said we were told about free ice cream with review. I guess she thought we were joking but on every single table the same information printed on a laminated table card so I don't know how she wouldn't be aware. We didn't get stickers or any swag either if this was an option instead of ice cream. I don't know what we are missing but ice cream was not free with reviews. My spouse was unhappy because the lady laughed and he didn't like how it was handled. Out of respect for the business owner, other customers, and him being respectful he said nothing but did ask why promised. He is not confrontational person and the lady just kept ringing it up anyway and took his card info. The owner was at a table working on a computer at this point with 2 other ladies so we didn't want to bother him. We really do try to be respectful to others. I'm sure we will give them another chance or more and update later. I liked the owner, I liked the location, I like the building and decor, and I liked the food. I don't like asking for tips before service at ANY establishment and I wish there was no communication issues on condiments and freebies.
