Came in after a long hike. Honestly, had sorta low expectations.

Let's start with the atmosphere - it's a bar-bar, not a bar in a restaurant. So 21 and over. Fortunately, no loud music blaring. Very easy to hold a conversation. The bar is 270 degrees. A few TV's scattered around, but volume kept low. Overall, low-key and casual but not dingy or dive-y.

Food was upmarket bar food at fairly reasonable prices. For whatever reason, I'd always thought of Roosters (at least when I drink it in a can) as kinda indifferent Utah beer, but the expressions they had on draft here were really, really good. Did the Citrus Wit, the Copperhead, and a Chocolate Stout. All solid. For food, had a burger, burnt end mac and cheese, and the potato chips-and-garlic sauce. The chips-and-garlic were a standout at the price point. Everything else was decent. Its not high-class dining, but for bar food, it's really well-executed.

Staff were fairly attentive. Did notice one off-shift bartender drinking and eating there, which is always a nice sign.

I will definitely be going back.

The Coop in Layton is hands-down the best bar in Davis County. The atmosphere is exactly what you want - warm, lively, stylish, and relaxed all at the same time. Whether I am meeting friends after work or just wanting a fun weekend night out, it always feels like the place to be.

One of my absolute favorite things about The Coop is having Holy Smokes BBQ on the menu. It was one of the best local BBQ spots in Davis County, and being able to enjoy their amazing brisket, pulled pork, and sides right inside the bar is such a win. It elevates the entire experience and adds that perfect local flavor you can’t get anywhere else.

Great drinks, great people, great food, and a vibe you just can’t beat—The Coop is truly a Davis County gem!

I ordered three tacos, one carnitas, one fish, and one brisket. All of them were fantastic! Each had big, bold flavors and the green salsa was excellent. The cabbage on all the tacos added the perfect crunch. The waitress was very attentive and made the experience even better. Definitely recommend The Coop by Roosters if you’re craving great tacos and friendly service!

I was in town for a few weeks staying at a near by hotel. Went here a few times as it was very convenient. The food was fantastic. Preston was a great bar tender. However the days Peston wasn't the bar tender and the other bar tenders were there it was terrible. I quickly learned the days Preston would be there and wouldn't step foot inside if the other bar tenders were there. They were rude. Acted like I was not good enough to sit in their bar and that they hated their job.

Stayed at a nearby hotel, this place became our goto for drinks and food. Staff was friendly and helpful, explaining the 'fun' Utah laws they have regarding liquor, and just fantastic food every single time.

Had the Coop Cater a party and the food was phenomenal!… I had nearly 50 guests at my party and every single person that came to the party, agreed that the food was incredible! It’s a yearly party that I have and the Coop will be catering this year’s as well!

What happened?

Been to The Coop multiple times in the past, it was always decent but not great. Really perplexed over my last dining experience. I ordered Mac & Cheese with burnt ends while my wife ordered the brisket.plate. Both meals were terrible!

The brisket is listed on the menu as “wet” from the point, but it was way overcooked & dry, dry, dry. it couldn’t be cut with a knife. The bark was so overstuffed with black pepper that it overpowered any other flavors that may have existed. Menu showed it included a corn bread muffin, but we were informed they only bake those once a week and had run out. Probably better than trying to eat a week old muffin.

The Mac & Cheese was equally bad. It continued so many red pepper flakes that it just tasted like capsaicin…Hot with no flavor. We ate less than 20% of it.

When food quality was shared with the waitress there was no reaction, like she’d heard it all before…often.

My wife asked to stop at McDonalds on the way home for “a better tasting meal.”

Looking To Get Lost

Good food and drinks served in a unique spot. Everything from the feel of a lounge, bar, restaurant and patio can be had in one spot. This is a bar not a restraunt so no kids allowed on this side of the building. Families can visit Roosters next door.

My family loves this place especially the naughty fries. They have definitely made some updates which make this place that much more enjoyable. We went on a Friday evening around 5pm and we were able to get a seat for two right away. As we were leaving around 6pm the line started to grow and so did the wait. We obviously ordered the night fries and we got the baked chicken Milano. I was afraid the chicken would be dry. I was wrong! I try and avoid chicken dishes in most restaurants because most over bake and are dry like the desert 😂. Anyways we will always return, just so long as the service avoids getting worse. The server could have been more attentive, and engaged more such as asking more questions, and attending the table more frequently. Maybe it was a bad night? 🤔

Stopped by for a team celebration and sat on the back porch. Service - great thank you Melinee, beer - great. The fact that you have to be 21 to even enter - perfect.
I have eaten at the Coop three times before and have been amazed. I tried the Hot Mess. Not bad, but doesn't come close to the other entrees I've had - Burnt Ends Mac and Cheese, BBQ, etc.

This was one of my favorite places.. the last 3-4 visits have been terrible I keep giving it another chance based on the original experiences I had but going forward will not bother eating here. Evening staff ignores you and menu has gone from great to gross I haven’t enjoyed a meal here in months . Please go back to basics and encourage staff to be attentive . Drinks are a go food is a No!

If you’re looking for the best burgers and fries in town, look no further than Roosters The Coop! From the first bite, it was clear we were in for something special. The burgers were perfectly juicy, packed with flavor, and stacked just right—not overloaded, but every ingredient played its part beautifully. And the fries? Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned to perfection.

But let’s talk about the real star of the show: the fry sauce. This wasn’t just any sauce; it was a divine creation. So smooth, so rich, so downright addictive, it could only be compared to Jesus’ baby gravy—a holy experience in condiment form. We found ourselves dunking everything in it, and honestly, if they bottled it, we’d be first in line to buy a gallon.

Great food, chill atmosphere, and service that makes you feel at home—Roosters The Coop is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back for more!
