Nicoise was fabulous! The restaurant needs an update, wasn't organized, cabinet with random items sitting it was an eye sore, unless their website photos have done so.
We read all the positive reviews and were excited to give it a try. Went on a Monday night around 6:30om. We were offered a table outside by the fire. We sat outside with no fire for at least 15 minutes and no one came to our table. They were unable to light the fire. Had to go inside and asked to be seated inside. Gave our order and the server came back to take it again, unaware that we had already ordered. Had to ask for water, napkins etc. Our food arrived and never saw our server again except for our bill. Not a friendly vibe. Would not return except possibly for takeout.
My wife and I went there for dinner as we were staying across the street and it got great reviews. Well, we can’t speak to the quality of the food, because we never got any. After being shown to our table, and someone bringing water, we never spoke to another person there. It wasnt overly busy by any means, we were seated right by where they walk in and out to the patio. After 15 minutes, pushing menus to the side to show we were ready, and getting passed by over 20-30 times by various employees, we got up and left. Havent done that in ages. Food may be good, i’ll never know. But the service was worse than a one.
So surprising. Stopped in as it was the first place we saw. And wow! Food was wonderful. We ordered the trout BLT to share. Fist, they very nicely split the portion and played it for each of us. But the food was delicious! Could barely eat the 1/2 and the trout was turkey delicious Order pickup from them on anoth r night and was not disappointed. Tried the brisket nachos. A little difficult to eat but the brisket was well worth the effort !
The food here was absolutely amazing. Full of flavor. We have no idea why there are anything but 5 star reviews. Would totally come back if I could!
World class chef Scott Ashley and proprietor Melinda have a unique local Utah food experience. This is a must stop for dinner and cocktails.
Wow! What flavor and excellent food! We drove through this small town hoping to find a good dinner. This was amazing! You can tell there is a skilled chef preparing the food. We had the Trout Nicoise Salad and the Fried Zucchini dish. Both were exploding with delicious flavors. Yes, it was more pricey, but with food this good, I definitely don't mind paying more. This is the best meal I've had on this vacation hands down!
Limited menu, especially for vegetarians. Slow service. Typical western bar atmosphere. Did not return for dinner although slightly more options.
We thought the food here was excellent, especially considering that the town is somewhat remote. The owners provide outstanding service.
Quick summary: delicious food, well-prepared. While burgers dominate the menu, the salads and limited number of mains are very good. Good apps. Beer (on tap and bottles/cans) and wine, and assorted soft drinks. Not a cheap place, but the quality is reasonable for the price. Friendly, helpful service. Much of their foodstuffs come from local farmers. There is talent in the kitchen. My husband and I stopped in for dinner. The menu has a number of burgers (mostly about $18), but also has a few main-dish salads (e.g. salad Nicoise or blackened chicken with greens, moslty $18-20) and a couple of mains, with veges included. Frankly, we have been on a road trip for a few weeks, and have had our fill of burgers and pizza. We were craving food that requires a knife and fork. In Escalante, where we were staying to visit the national monument, this is the place that can give you tht very good dinner. We started with side salads ($8 each) that were a generous size and a mixture of very fresh vegetables. To note: this was not on the printed menu, but we asked and they accommodated us. For whatever reason, the side salad is shown on the online website. The choice of mains this evening was the pork chop ($32) or the 20-oz porterhouse steak ($60.) We chose the pork, largely because it sounded good, but we had also had our fill of steaks in recent days. (At 20 oz, we probably would have split it between the two of us.) The pork chop was thick and delish, and had been in a tasty marinade. It came with two sides: sweet potato mash that tasted like it had a dollop of maple syrup in it. (It was good, but personally, I don't have a sweet taste - I might have preferred it without the maple.) There was also a really tasty mixture of cabbage, apple, and pearl onion. Full bar, including beer on tap and in cans/bottles. Many cocktails and spirits. Wine is limited to house red (merlot or cab) or white and seems to only be served by the glass - $8 for a respectable pour. I was happy with the cab. Friendly, professional service. In a perfect world, there might be a few more mains as there is real talent in the kitchen. Perhaps use some of the chicken that would go on the salad for a quick grilled breast, with the delish veges we had? The menu on the website might use some updating as it indicated a special of corned beef and cabbage, but that was MIA when we were there. I might have considered the brisket nachos with a salad for dinner - or how about a brisket dinner? But yes, the apps look very good, too: besides the brisket nachos ($18), fried cauliflower bites ($14,) seasoned fries with mushroom and truffle cheese ($14.) and others. I'm sure the burgers are great - and they looked very good - but 'just sayin'....Escalante desperately needs a kitchen of this quality that can put out knife-and-fork dinners. More, please!!??!? Friendly, attentive, professional service throughout. Outdoor dining available in nice weather. More due diligence: check the opening hours, and have a little patience.. The website says opens at 4, but the sign on the door (and reality) is that it opened at 5. Even then, I went in right at 5, and the door was open, but there was no host or greeter to be found. Since I was kind of desperate for a good knife-and-fork dinner, I went to the kitchen area to make sure they were open. YES!!! The host arrived shortly afterwards. The point: have patience, and you will be rewarded with a very good dinner.

Fun menu, generous portions, very flavorful. Great burgers and salads. Very good foos right next to the Circle D Motel.
We had dinner with friends on March 17 which was season opening night. Our food and service were outstanding and we highly recommend Circle D Eatery.
As we drove by you could smell something delicious on smoker! It was Brisket! We each had Brisket sandwich plates (I forgot to take a picture), pretzel, and a beautiful salad! Coop was our server and he was great! We saw others having delicious looking burgers. The food presentation is very professional! Eatery is also very clean! Stop on by!
We arrived and the barman told us to take a seat and wait. We waited. Eventually we saw someone arriving after us being shown to a table and objected. Oops. They showed us to a table and asked if we'd like a drink first. After a few questions about the sparse wine list, we discovered they had a cocktail list so we asked for that. Ordered 2 cocktails. And waited. Eventually our server came and said our cocktails wouldn't be long, the barman hadn't any honey syrup and had to make some up. OK, small bar, probably not much call. We waited. We decided to order a couple of glasses of wine to go with the meal; they didn't have all the wines on their short list, and they came in glasses the thickness of jam jars. And we waited. After more than half an hour, our server was walking in our direction, stopped dead, beetled back to the kitchen and a woman came out. "Just been checking on your meal" she said (why, if we hadn't asked? Does she normally? Or had the waiter told her something was screwed up?). It's nearly ready, the kitchen's backed up, let me get you some chips and salsa in the meantime on the house. No "sorry". We waited. The chips came out - I'd said no, but husband said they were fine but how long does it take to put some chips and some salsa in a couple of bowls? We waited. Eventually - nearly an hour late - our meal came. It was very good. Woman then came back and offered free desserts. I said no, husband accepted and said it too was very good. And then our server noticed he hadn't filled up our water all evenng. Topped it up and asked how the meal had been. "When you eventually remembered to put in our order!" I scoffed. He got huffy and claimed the kitchen had screwed up because they were backed up. The restaurant was half full - maybe they are short staffed? Yet they managed to produce food for people who came in after us before we got ours? They didn't need to give us chips and dessert free. I would have felt much better - and given them a better review and better tip - if they had ONCE said sorry and if they had said "we screwed up".
Natalie from the Ponderosa Inn recommended Circle D. Let me tell you, Circle D, just a 2 min walk from the Inn...had great burgers, even better fries.and Chipotle Aioli. All the staff was friendly, and Coop was very personable. Consider adding this to your list when in Escalante.
