What a relief to find this place. Friendly and fast staff. Better than average cheeseburger. Good fries and rings. Great shakes. Noisy location due to adjacent road. Room for one or two RVs in back of lot. Sit at outside tables for service if you don't drive through or drive in.

We went for our 30th anniversary and indicated such on the reservation. Having never been there before and since it was our anniversary we dressed up too. They DID mention it was our anniversary at the hostess stand, but that was it. The hostess took us back, winding through the restaurant to an area RIGHT NEXT DO the swinging kitchen door. There were five open booths, but she proceeded to seat us literally across from the kitchen door while the other booths further in were wide open. I had to ask if we could move, and she said we could - after seating a young couple in SWEATPANTS in the far back booth. I was stunned. (This is a pet peeve. WHY seat us next to the kitchen if there are PLENTY of open spaces available that are NOT??) The food was definitely plentiful. The panko-encrusted fried shrimp was really good. Couldn't get behind the shrimp steak - tasted like turkey and shrimp both, which was odd. Tenderloin medallions were perfect and the peppered sauce was divine. Ordered strawberry pie and coconut cream pie to go, and they were really good. The waitress was nice but extremely soft-spoken and hard to hear. BUT I cringed when she brought the check in one of those small black portfolio things and then set it right on top of our OPEN to-go containers - right where the food goes. Blech. Overall I would probably not go there again of my own volition.

It's been a few years since we have been near enough to stop. The service was great and they're very efficient getting our order and food out to us. It's fun using the drive-in reminiscent of our parents "good ol days" experience. We will be sure to return again.

I have been a regular at Maddox over 50 years. For fun I took a look at the 1 and 2 star ratings. One thing I noticed with several of these reviews was that they stated they said nothing to their waiter or asked to talk to a supervisor. Really? Maddox has been rated as an excellent eatery by Salt Lake Magazine, Trip Advisor, and others. My experiences there have always been top drawer from staff, waiters and management. Food is excellent-always! All the side fixins compliment each entree. If one goes away hungry, I would be willing to bet they didn't lift their fork to their mouth. The rustic style cabin atmosphere has always been the restaurant's mantra. Go in hungry, and come out with your belt loosened and a huge smile!
As I reading some reviews here on Yelp, I felt a little hesitant due to some of the more recent reviews being negative. But we decided to stop in anyway. And good golly Miss Molly was I glad we did! Ignore all the negative reviews from the last year or so mentioning poor quality food or poor service! We had an excellent waiter, Maverick, who was the perfect mix of non-intrusive but also aware of when we needed refills and stopped in to check on us the correct amount. The place was packed at 2:00 on a Friday afternoon and the food came out fast and fresh! I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and clam chowder with their Birch Root Beer to drink. It was all excellent! The gravy on the potatoes and the chicken fried steak was delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly! My wife said the Maddox Sirloin was also delicious and cooked just like she likes it! The clam chowder was also very good with nice big pieces of clam and potatoes. The Birch Root Beer is better than any brand name root beer (Mug, A&W, Barq's etc...) and was superb! Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Wow Factor: Homestyle Gravy! It's so good that it would make anything you put it on taste better! 5/5 Overall: 5/5 and well deserved at that! This is still a great place to eat! Even after 3 changes in management over 4 generations, the food is still amazing!
