They changed their whole menu and it’s terrible! They got rid of so many items and also shrunk the portions! Go to costa vida instead.

I'm saddened to do this, as I have loved Cafe Rio for the last decade since I moved to Provo, but my recent experiences with this location have been frustrating and disappointing.
First of all the new menu changes are HORRIBLE! Fewer options and less food with those options. Portions are smaller and there are fewer add ons. You used to get guacamole and sour cream along with a side salad or rice and beans with the quesadilla. Now you don't unless you pay for it. They've gone the way of Costa Vida. The food you do get is way more expensive. We used to pay between $20-$30 when my husband and I ate there. Now it's between $40-$50 for less food.
To add to all of that frustration, the last few curbside pickup orders we've made haven't been accurate. Items are missing. Sides we paid a lot for haven't been added. I hate rice and they keep including it even though I always specify no rice. Thr wrong beans are added. They forget the cheese. Stuff like that. They are prompt to give us a refund or points on the app, but I'm getting awfully tired of paying more money for orders that are consistently messed up.
This location used to be great. It's so sad they've deteriorated. Unless they bring back the old menu or significantly improve their service, I don't think we'll be returning. It's not worth it anymore.

The prices have been raised and the menu has been changed for the worse. Why? The other Cafe Rios haven't done this. The service here generally is bad, the staff don't have great customer service skills to even say hello or acknowledge you, they just stare, and many times they don't get your order right. They also limit how much you can order online and once you attempt to order online, it locks your account from making any future order, but it's ONLY at this North Provo location online. The other locations you can order from just fine. Other locations don't lock your account out from online ordering, but if you don't want my money, that's fine. If you are the manager reading this and all the many other bad recent reviews on here, it means you need to pivot and make a change and do something different, because what you're doing now doesn't seem to be working. Local leadership needs an overhaul. Would rate zero stars if it were an option. So very very poorly run.

This is the worst cafe rio, if they change all of them to be like this one I’ll stop going to cafe rio and just do costa vida. They oversimplified the menu. No specials. No pollo asada. The large drinks are a small by other standards- everything is not as good and overpriced. Not one change to this updated cafe rio is good.

7:30 and they had no pico de gallo or protein. It’s genuinely sad how getting food in Utah after 3PM is impossible. How do you run out of protein by 7PM? 🤦♂️

Always out of steak and I hate the new menu.
The portions have been ridiculously cut. They also changed the menu so it’s now a handheld burrito or a rio burrito. Mega stupid
Why are the drive through workers so rude? 😂 every time I come here they are jerks to me. The location in Sandy is so much better.

More expensive, smaller, skimpy portions, got rid of classic ingredients like sauces and beef. Won't go back.

Don’t go to this location. Management changed up a few items like the chips and queso to two separate sides and no extra pico and salsa, and the tostada is now called “lite salad.” Like what? Keep the good stuff the same. Things changed up so recently that even the staff didn’t know the queso discrepancies until corrected by another staff member. They also never get my order exactly right in the drive through/ mobile takeout. This is by far the worst cafe rio location. Stay away.

I am so sad to write this review. I have over $1000 in loyalty points here getting 10% on each purchase in points just to illustrate that I know cafe Rio.
First. Something you did to the ranch recepie about two years ago was awful. It’s runnier now way worse flavor. You had it perfected for 20 years and had success why throw away your staple for this bad tasting ranch?
Second the new menu is terrible. It’s over priced. You don’t give options for buying guac as an extra add on it’s just included and you charge $3 on top of the burrito that used to be $10. Now it’s $15 which is a ridiculous price point. I think the downfall started maybe 5 years ago. I’m not sure if a private equity got involved or if you’re trying to sell to private equity but just letting you know that your entire base of loyalty: Utah, is turning on you
Nobody wants to go there anymore.
Stop trying to be chipotle ( who everyone also hates now) and try and go back to what made you great 2020 cafe Rio.

I actually love cafe rio and would normally give them a 5 star review but I am giving them a 1 to get their attention. They say they close at 10 but they are basically closed at 9. They are out of half the meats, they are taken off the heaters, and you just get cold, bottom of the barrel of whatever they have left. We got there at 9:10 pm and this was the experience. It’s not like we got there at 9:55. Either provide a quality service while you’re open or just close early. And this has happened to me multiple times. Idk if the employees are taking matters into their own hands or cafe rio doesn’t pay them after hours. So moral of the story is cafe rio is normally awesome but do not go within an hour of closing time.

I would normally never leave a review on a Cafe Rio, because they are all a little questionable service-wise. However this cafe rio got rid of the tortilla soup and a bunch of other stuff!! It’s crazy. Go to South Provo or Orem. This was our go to cafe rio, we will not be back.
