It's a very nice place but Switchback claims to be a steakhouse and their prices match that, but my New York Strip was nothing special.
Exceeded expectations, steaks were done exactly how we ordered, our server JT gave the best service I think we’ve ever received.

We had a bad experience when we went for my husband's birthday. Firstly, we were told there were no tables and that we would have to sit at the bar even though the place was empty. At the bar, there was a very strong fish smell which was really off putting. We decided we couldn't eat sitting in that smell so asked again for a table as there were so many free ones and we were then shown to a table. The place didn't fill up the whole time we were there so it's not like they were busy at all. It was the very end of the season. Then, the service wasn't as expected. We both ordered starters and mains, but my husbands starter came so ahead of mine that he had finished, and the plate was cleared before mine came. And then about 2 minutes later our mains came so I had both dishes at the same time. My husband ordered steak but had to ask 3 times for a steak knife which eventually came about 10 minutes later. We wouldn't go back.

We had a very disappointing experience at Switchback Steakhouse. Our server took our order and then disappeared — we didn’t see them again until it was time to flag someone down for the bill. My son’s steak was completely forgotten, and when it finally came out, it was raw even though he ordered it well done. The manager eventually stepped in to help, but by that point, my husband and son had to eat separately.
My cauliflower steak was served cold, and if I had waited for it to be reheated, we would have all been eating at different times, so I just sent it back. It really felt like we were overlooked and treated as an inconvenience, possibly because we didn’t order alcoholic drinks or appetizers.
We spent almost $200 for two 8oz steaks, which would be fine if the food and service matched the price point — but they didn’t. I’ve dined at many fine steakhouses, and this place felt like it was trying to be upscale but couldn’t deliver on the basics: timely service, properly cooked food, and a sense of hospitality.
Overall, I do not recommend dining here. Very disappointed.

Food was good but very overpriced. Everything was a la carte including bread with dinner.

It was a birthday celebration, and we went early we waited 30 minutes for our cocktail then 30 minutes for our salad course. The waitress forgot to put our salad order in, so another wait. When the Entrée arrived, it was cold. We were never offered a birthday dessert, as they knew it was both of our birthdays. If we had had better service, the food is the best you will get in Springdale.

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Switchback grill while visiting Zion. The service was terrific. JT was our waiter. He was efficient and friendly and very helpful and engaging. The ribeye steak was grilled perfectly and was seasoned just right. Delicious. The atmosphere was comfortable and had a cosy southwest design. Highly recommend.

Our first time in Utah has been amazing- stepping in here for dinner was a great choice. The staff is lovely and attentive, and the FOOD- chef’s kiss.
Kudos to the hard working guys in the kitchen, it definitely is noticed in the quality of the food.
I would recommend this location to anyone traveling to Utah.
Thanks for having us!

Delicious more upscale-type place near Zion NP. Halibut and salmon were both delicious. Great service! Recommend highly.

We visited Switchback Grille while on vacation at Zion National Park after having two great experiences next door at their Italian sister restaurant. We were looking forward to ending the evening with a cocktail and dessert, and intentionally chose to sit at the bar to avoid taking up a dining table.
Unfortunately, our experience with the bartender, Stephanie, was disappointing. From the moment we sat down, she appeared visibly frustrated and immediately asked, “You’re not going to be eating food, are you?” before expressing how overwhelmed she was and that she doesn’t normally work in this restaurant. Throughout the evening, she continued to complain loudly about her work situation, the management, and even made questionable comments about serving something the wrong wine because they would not be able to tell.
The atmosphere at the bar felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming, which was surprising given the otherwise wonderful reputation of this establishment.
That said, I genuinely believe Stephanie has the makings of a great bartender—she’s energetic, outgoing, and clearly capable of connecting with people when she wants to. With that in mind, I’d offer the following constructive “tips”:
• When you’re frustrated, take a breath before speaking—your tone sets the entire guest experience.
• Avoid venting about management or coworkers in front of customers; professionalism builds credibility and trust.
• Your role is to make guests feel seen and comfortable, not to carry the burden of a rough shift out loud.
• Honesty, kindness, and composure go a long way in hospitality. People will always remember how you made them feel.
• And finally, tipping is often reserved for those who go above and beyond—grace, attentiveness, and warmth make all the difference.
We truly hope this feedback helps, because with the right attitude, Stephanie could easily turn things around and become an asset to the Switchback team.
