Quite the unique place, RIGHT ON the train tracts in the heart of Ashland. Friendly but professional staff (see dietary comments). Ashland has community free parking very close to the restuarant. Not expensive at all!! For the type of venue, atmosphere is great and unique!!Dietary restrictions: My husband has serious and MANY food allergies to things commonly found in restuarant foods (corn products of any type- - corn starch, corn oil, corn etc/ dairy of any type, pepper, olive products and more). They were most helpful and accommodating. Even though we were far from we will return. There are not many places we can eat out.

Traveling Lady Railfan

I spent a few days in Ashland railfanning, and found this location to be excellent! Parking is a little tricky, but once you have a sport, come to the Iron Horse. They have a nice interior, nice bar, but I'm a railfan and I need to be trackside, so I spent the day at their outdoor patio seating area. You get good advanced notice (horns and crossings) of a train coming from north or south and if notify your server that you're here to photo trains, so if I jump up - I'm not "dining and dashing, I'm just taking photos of the CSX/ Amtraks going by" then they're very chill. You know they get a lot of railfans here. Oh, and about 2 doors down is a hobby shop, so make sure to visit them, too!Anyway, so they had a very nice Vanilla porter on tap which I loved, and the food portions were hefty and filling. We had a double cheese burger and fries / Monte Cristo and fries for lunch then had very little room for dinner (we split a plate). Our companions for dinner liked their food too.Service was great, food was great, location was great!!

Nothing special at this place at all. I ordered the meatloaf with mash potatoes and green beans. I got exactly 4 green beans. They have a very limited menu. Very dark restaurant.

They sat us in a dark corner, and we waited 45 minutes for our food, and I'm still giving it 5 stars. Exquisite food at this establishment. I would return.

Anytime I am traveling I like to stay in small cities that are outside of the big city. We discovered this nice city of Ashland VA. Just spent one night there, but I also discover this very nice restaurant next to the tracks. We had the truffle fries as an app, I had the Beef Short ribs and my son had the burger. Along with a couple of handcrafted cocktails. Food was so good and drinks were spot on. Service was spectacular. It was a nice evening so we sat outside.

Wonderful meal in a charming area of Ashland. Right next to the railroad tracks to watch trains as they go by. We were a party of 6. Yes we had reservations. Great server. So sorry I forgot his name as he was awesome! Four in our party chose the hangar steak with fingerlings and shaved Brussel sprouts on the side. One chose a Cesar salad. My hubby chose the Ice Bleu Wedge salad. All four raved over the hangar steak. Tender, flavorful and not a bit of fat. Two of us chose to split the crab and shrimp bisque so flavorful with cream and butter. Only comes by the bowl but our server split into two cups. Perfect portion. Then we both chose salmon over cauliflower risotto served on an asparagus bed. AMAZING!! And I enjoyed my husband's Brussel sprouts, also fabulous. We were celebrating a birthday and thank goodness no singing! Each couple shared a dessert. Brownie cheesecake, apple pie with ice cream and a chocolate cake. Should caution the ambience is fairly dim so as seniors we used our phone flashlights to read the menu. Definitely will return.
