I’ve been buying sushi and sashimi from this place almost every week for over a year because it’s inside the grocery store, and during that entire time the owner has never spoken to me - no greeting, no thanks, just a poker face while taking my credit card, which I always assumed was due to language barrier. Today I saw the truth: the customer in front of me, bought only a small box of sushi and was met with warm smiles, careful packing, and repeated thanks. The moment it was my turn, the owner went silent again, avoided eye contact, didn’t even pack my items properly (the bag was left open with the receipt loose), gestured for me to leave, and immediately moved on to the next customer. It was clear it was never a language issue - she knows how to be friendly and communicate, she just chooses who deserves it. As a weekly customer, this experience was disappointing and unacceptable, and I will not be returning.

Extremely uncomfortable and disappointing experience. I was trying to pay with Apple Pay and was told there’s a $5 minimum. My total was $4, so I said no problem—I’d switch to something else. When I tried to put the item back, the employee took it from me and walked toward me, then said, “Show me which one you want,” as if I was going to run off with $4 worth of sushi.
The interaction felt profiling and completely unnecessary. I was treated like I couldn’t be trusted, and as a brown woman wearing a hijab, it’s hard not to notice the bias. It’s 2025—no one should be made to feel this way over a simple purchase.
Horrible experience. Do better.

Really good sushi at a fair price. I eat from here weekly. I think some of the commenters below need to cut the staff some slack, as they don't appear to speak much English. My only (minor) complaint would be that they sometimes keep inventory low, and I then have to wait for them to make what they have run out of.

The female owner is kind, but the male owner is quite rude. When you try to pay, he just gestures with his hand asking for the card, and he never responds to greetings. He's not mute, but he pretends to be

It’s exactly what you think it is. Decent sushi, for a great price. They’re doing gods work serving the people of Chantilly

I love their sushi, and the price is very reasonable. I buy them weekly.

Come to Rainbow Sushi for straight forward sushi staples and straightforward, sometimes gruff service. It's not for those who are craving fancy rolls covered in sauces and mayo and adorned with toppings offered by servers with sweet smiles.

I pick up the basic California rolls for my kids on a regular basis. For less than $5 for 8 rolls, it can't be beat. There are also eel and rainbow rolls available. The fish is sliced very thinly but this is reflected in the price. FYI, the tray pictured is about $40.

I randomly decided to pick up an Eel roll (with avocado, eel sauce, some other stuff) just to have something to munch on while shopping inside Lotte. The fact that I picked it up from a refridgerator shelf, inside a market, and fairly cheap, I thought it was going to be the usual below-average store shelf sushi. Surprisingly, my sushi was GOOD. Like, remarkably good, up there in the top 5 sushis I have ever had, and I've had Sushi Nakazawa in DC.The rice was perfectly temperatured (not chilled), and slides apart effortlessly in your mouth with nice vinegary hint. If you picture typical supermarket sushi (even a lot of restaurant sushi), it is not chilly nor sticky nor clumpy. The ingredients blended together so well and melts together in your mouth in a way that you could not tell what was rice, what was eel, what was seaweed, etc. The eel and avocado tasted fresh.Would definitely go out of my way to get sushi from here.

The service is really BAD.
I asked for two sets of chopsticks. But the sushi maker gave me a set of chopsticks. So I complained about why he gave me just one set, and this person screamed at me and said, "What is wrong with you? "Do you have a problem? Do you have a problem," he said, threatening me. And he threw the casher box away. If there was a CCTV here, I would like to report it to the police. Horrible experience. NO recommend!!!

Great spot for takeout sushi! We were lucky to feast on the massive part platter and it definitely delivers when it comes to grocery store style sushi. A humongous plate with all sort of variety - something for everyone to enjoy. Make sure to order in advance for a catered item like this but everything they make seems fresh and similar quality to some casual sushi restaurants.

People behind counter ignore you when you stand there. I have stood there for 10 minutes while the person behind the counter played on phone and then turned back as soon as we made eye contact. So tonight, I tried to order.. just a little past 5pm, they close at 7. They would not make an order. Sushi is what you expect from a grocery store. Dry rice, falls apart.. used to buy some when in store and convenient. Go around the corner to Otani.. for a couple dollars more it’s much better and they actually want business.
