MHAI smelled Rancid. No one asked how the meal turned out, even after leaving almost the entire cut untouched for fear of putrifaction.

Loved this place 20 years ago. Sadly not what it used to be . . .

Food was great ! The menu has a lot of hearty items that are just like a good mom used to make. Pot roast and pork roast and things that stick to your ribs. Very friendly staff and efficient as well. The interior has a cozy old world kind of charm. Dessert menu has too many choices haha. You should go there.

Loved the outdoor eating area in the alleyway. Great for a nice day, and it even has a roof to protect from rain. Wonderful staff and fast service. Almost all the same food as inside, and all the food we would have chosen anyway. It is also first come first serve. So you don't need a reservation. We loved it!

Worst food I’ve ever had. I don’t understand the positive reviews and I feel so strongly about this. European restaurant, my foot.

First, it’s so dark and crammed in there. I really think this an actual fire hazard not to mention you can’t move without bumping into someone or a table.

Second, the prices are insulting — $25 for a salad made with canned peaches? $10 for a CUP of soup. The chutney tasted like a cigarette. Why is a plate of pasta the same price as pork roast? The service was non existent — no one asked how my food was or if I needed anything else … probably for the best.

Third, the menu is completely lacking in seasonality or imagination. No self respecting Italian or chef would serve hard, pale tomatoes out of season or blue cheese in their ravioli or packaged butter with stale focaccia. That’s a joke. And everything comes on top of mixed greens. Mixed greens mixed greens mixed greens. It’s like they own stock in a bagged salad company.

Maybe they don’t love what they do anymore — front and back of house. It comes through in the food. It’s a very mediocre restaurant trying to be gourmet and charging you for it but the food & service is quantity over quality. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for fancy, just a little creativity and authenticity.

Culpeper has so much to offer with its agricultural heritage in the Piedmont: livestock, orchards, vegetable farms… there’s a rich source of food, people and ideas to pull from but it’s legacy restaurants like this that stagnate and completely ignore it and serve you sad food. It’s really a shame.

I had a delicious lunch with my sister in law. She enjoyed the hot cider. The ambience is always welcoming, the food is delicious, and the service top notch!! The ahi tuna salad was delicious and she enjoyed the puff pastry which is her go to!! Highly recommend!

On a girls getaway and weren't sure where to eat. Explored downtown area and decided on this place. Beyond happy that we did! The hot apple cider was the best I have ever had. We were treated so well here by all of the staff that you would think we knew them all personally. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We decided to get three different meals and share them. We tried the acorn squash with goat cheese ravioli, the ham and cheese sandwich, and the puff pastry with fig jam. Sincerely one of the best places I have eaten at in years. The quality of food is evident in every bite. The focaccia bread was so addictive, do yourself a favor and ask for some of it to go too. This was our first day here coming from VA Beach and we are already considering eating there again tomorrow.
