Barrel Oak Winery and Brewery

Barrel Oak Winery is a cute spot less than an hour from DC. The views are great. The wines are delicious. The staff is amazing. I may be biased but Jen Wanek is the best! Go see Jen and the rest of the staff!

No way to know when your food is ready. You gotta camp out by some exit & watch to see if / when it hits the counter. Which isn’t cool when it’s 40 degrees & windy! “Restaurant pagers” been since the 90’s - Amazon has them for $80-300 for a complete system. PLZ consider investing in them.

I agree with the comments about the flys, they’re outta control.

Btw: The “dogs for adoption” volunteer thing is cute - until it’s not! Once a dog starts losing its marbles over another dog & the volunteer can’t control them, it’s time to go.

We recently had our wedding at this beautiful location. We had been here a few times before and loved the beautiful scenery, good food, and good drinks. When we decided to get married within 3 weeks, this was the first location that came to mind. It's about an hour outside of DC, so it was convenient for our guests.

Christina answered the inquiry and immediately got to work. She saw our vision and with such short notice, it was executed perfectly. Christina is kind, professional, and damn good at what she does. From helping decorate the cake, manage the 5year old flower girls, and being a DJ, us and our guests were so impressed! Christina, thank you again for making this so special for us.

The rest of the staff was amazing and kind. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The catering was amazing, and the selection of beer and wine is perfect, as there is something for everyone. Thank you again to this wonderful business. We are so happy to have had our special day close to home so we can visit easily and make more memories.

I can't say enough great things about this place. Yesterday my family and friends gathered at Barrel Oak to celebrate my birthday. The entire team here was incredibly kind and accommodating. We had a reservation for a big group, but upon us letting them know that my grandma would have issues going up stairs, they offered us the outside pavilion (it ended up being perfect).

The views and the vibes are unmatched. Thank you for being a part of our story (we also got married here a few years ago!)

$39 (after tax) for a a charcuterie board. Kept on having to swat flies away while sitting… inside. Noticed many other patrons doing the same and flies in the kitchen when I picked up our food from the kitchen window.

$113 for 4 wine tastings + 4 bite sized pairings, plus stomping on grapes (which sounds really cool but was actually freezing on the feet and not enjoyable for more than 2 minutes). Would not go back or recommend this experience to anyone else.

What a great place. They hosted a cycle event and had opportunities to sample some of their goods. They did a wonderful job with orchestrating and providing delicious post ride sustenance. If I'm ever in the area, I would absolutely visit again. Hopefully they will be kind enough to host again next year.

Get a bottle of Goldie wine. Wow! I think that is my new favorite wine! 🥳🥳🥳The spicy honey pepperoni pizza was so delicious too. I know the pizza varieties vary, but whatever you get, you won't be disappointed. Promise! 😁❤️😎💯👌👍

I really wanted to like the wine but couldn’t get past the nose. Disappointed.

We have been members for just about 9 months now. Our first experience with Barrel Oak was a harvest luncheon which was an amazing and fun experience-would recommended to everyone!! I think they do around quarterly. While we were there, we spoke with Jen who is fantastic! We immediately signed up as members. Every time we go in, Jen makes a point to stop by and say hi to us! She is a gem, and we look forward to seeing her every time we come in.

I did not know what to expect from this spot, but I was very impressed. Their operations and organization is impressive. I’d have to be extremely picky to find cons about my experience.

Let’s first start with the wines. Their new sparkling rosé is something everyone needs. It was so good, I was ready to purchase it on the spot, but it’s not ready for release yet (they are hoping it will be in October). Before I even tasted it, it was fragrant of watermelon and strawberry. I’m not even a watermelon fan, but this wine!!! Best rosé I’ve ever tried, no exaggeration. I am very indifferent about Chardonnays, but their stainless steel one was excellent. I was also ready to purchase it, but will when I come back to get the sparkling rosé. The assistant winemaker told us they find that people who don’t usually like Chardonnay like that one. It had a hint of sweetness and I loved it!! Their yuzu ginger seltzer was nice and light and refreshing. Will also be purchasing when I come back. I can’t give an objective opinion about their beer because I truly do not like beer (like if you see me with a beer in my hand, send help). They also have frozen drinks: a virgin strawberry daiquiri and a mango piña colada. Delicious but very sweet.

I loved learning about their winemaking process as well their beer production. Their new winemaker, Jeremy, is certainly doing an amazing job. He came in 4 years ago and completely revamped their wines. The new owners, Ken and Kavelle Bajaj, have owned Barrel Oak since 2022 and originally are from India. We met Ken, and he was very nice and appreciative for us coming to visit. They also have a new Brewmaster and his name is Jin. He was great to talk with about the brewing process. Everyone on the staff was so nice and it was a lovely day here.

They have food here too like empanadas and pizza that I thought were pretty good too. It was packed there for a reason. It’s an excellent place perfect for birthdays, bridal activities, any special occasions, or just wanting a chill and fun day in VA wine country.

Nice place with a relaxed ambiance. Good place to unwind.

What a great experience! We had lunch that was delicious, our tour was fabulous, and the tasting was top notch. Jen W added that personal touch that made us feel at home.
