This place provides terrible customer service; they need to change their entire system to win back customers.
I made a last-minute reservation at IHOP in Gainesville, Virginia, for a late dinner around 8:30 PM for a group of 30 people. When I arrived, there were only two waiters working and just a few customers, but the manager, Ulises, was kind enough to step in and help one of the waiters, Khrist, serve our group. The service was excellent, and it didn’t take long to place our orders or receive our food. Everything was great, and since 28 out of 30 in our group were seniors, the manager kindly gave us a 10% discount. My T-bone steak was cooked perfectly, and the rest of the group enjoyed a variety of dishes. We finished our meal within an hour. Overall, it’s a great place to eat with fast service and friendly staff.

I had a very disappointing experience at this IHOP location on December 21. My companion and I visited for lunch after staying at the Hampton Inn Gainesville, which is located across the street. We were on a road trip through Virginia from New York and chose IHOP because it has always been one of my favorite breakfast places.
When we entered the restaurant, we approached the front desk to request a table for two. The gentleman working at the front desk spoke very loudly while asking for my name and told us to wait for a table. I then politely asked how long the wait might be, which is a very normal and common question asked at any restaurant. Instead of responding calmly, he became irritated and raised his voice, saying he could not give an exact time. I was not asking for an exact time--just an approximate wait.
His attitude was unnecessarily rude and aggressive, and he continued to raise his voice for no reason. This made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. While we were waiting on the front sofa, he eventually called our name and offered us a very small table that we were expected to share with two other people, which was unacceptable for us. At that point, we decided to leave the restaurant.
What made the situation worse was that the same employee was loudly yelling at his own coworkers in front of customers, which is extremely unprofessional. I have never experienced anything like this at any IHOP location in New York, where service has always been friendly and respectful.
IHOP has always been a place I enjoy, but this location left me very disappointed. The customer service here needs serious improvement, better staff training, and more professionalism. No guest should feel disrespected.

Waiter was terrible, did not speak English or understand what our order was. Brought wrong order to table. Do not check in on us while eating. Good was terribly disappointing. No dollop of butter, 5 pieces of stawberries, cold bacon, eggs made incorrectly, we contemplated leaving and speaking with the manager and not finishing our meal.

We arrived around 8:00–8:30 PM and the service was a mess from the start. One employee took our party size and never followed up, and another came later asking the same question with a rude, uninterested attitude.
When we sat down, a nearby table was piled with dirty dishes that stayed there for a long time without anyone cleaning it.
The staff was disorganized and careless. My kids’ order couldn’t be made because they “didn’t have waffles,” and the server added unnecessary rules about milkshakes and the Kids Free offer. Everything felt complicated for no reason.
At checkout, the manager, Olga, argued that my IHOP reward couldn’t be used, claiming she had “20 years working there” and had never seen it. After checking with the owner, she returned saying it could be applied. Very unprofessional overall.
Experiences like this are exactly why self-service and AI systems will eventually replace waiters in places like this. Many customers simply want to order, eat, and leave — without dealing with bad attitudes or confusion. That day will come.
I will not be returning to this IHOP, and I do not recommend it.

I arrived at 12:30am on 12/3/25. No one was in thereand I was seated and ordered an orange juice. It took awhile but I wasn't in a rush. I placed my order. Another set of customers arrived and they were waited on immediately. By the time I received my food, it was cold and in smaller portions than my previous visit. I got the bill and then had to wait 10 minutes to have processed. The server said a total of 5 words to me and obviously did not want my patronage
JP was very kind and polite. He got our food out fast with great service. It was a complete full house and JP said he’d get our food out in under 15 minutes. I kid you not he got it out and on our table in 14 minutes. JP is 1 of 1. Unc is H-I-M.
