The food is pretty good. They are a bit slow and usually busy, so don’t go if you are in a rush. Very cute local decor and shop makes it a fun place for lunch or coffee with a friend. They also have ice cream and smoothies.

Great store and sandwich shop but Service is pretty bad and unforgiving. I ordered a coffee and wanted to change it to a latte and she wouldn’t allow me to do it saying it was too late even though they hadn’t even poured the coffee yet.

10/2024: This is an interesting place. Huge thrift store (or maybe they would prefer 'antiques') which also includes a restaurant and a couple of independent vendors (used records and sports cards, maybe others) downstairs. Largest selection of (at least a thousand) country and bluegrass records I have ever seen anywhere, and the vendor seems to know every record there. They usually have several really nice old pieces of furniture.
The restaurant has couple of dozen different sandwiches, ice cream, coffees, soups, and other stuff. No fries. Everything I've tried has been freshly made of good ingredients, generous portions, and a good value for the money. But for me the main attraction now that I've browsed it all is that they have a free music show with a different local artist most every Saturday afternoon. This place definitely needs to be on your list of places to investigate when strolling through old town Galax.
Parking: Main street in old town Galax so at busy times you might have to look around a bit to find a space on the street, but at other times you can park right out front. There is a free city lot about one block west where I have never failed to find a vacant space.
Wheelchair accessibility: Main street entrance from the sidewalk to the main floor is free and clear, no automatic door opener though. Aisles in the store are mostly wide enough for a chair, I think. Access to downstairs floor not so good. Galax streets mostly do not have ramped intersections so there might be some difficulties getting psat the curb from street to sidewalk.

Nice place for lunch. Unique setting in antique and craft shop. Self seating; order at cashier then seat and food is brought to the table. Large servings and good selection of sandwiches. Decent bathrooms.

Amazing !! Fresh homemade biscuits were the perfect density. Gravy had just the right amount of pepper. Single biscuit was the ideal amount of food. Coffee has great, mi bitterness. Service has outstanding. Atmosphere, being connected to the General store, has just down home enough without being too cutesy. Will be back

The Briarpatch is a nice quaint little restaurant located in the historic city of Galax Virginia. The home of Bluegrass. Food is delicious and the atmosphere is great.

What a great place. The marketplace blew me away when I found quite a few things I bought, and the aroma of that food throughout then getting to sit and play some checkers before enjoying some mouth watering breakfast at the cafe. All you travelers I would put this place on the list of must stop.

I just love the vibe of this place. We stopped so my husband could do a zoom call. I had a place to wander around and eat. It was baked potato day! What a great idea

First time coming to this Cafe. First, I called to find out what kind of salads they had and was greeted by a lady on the phone with a bit of an attitude. As I started to ask her about the salads she acted like it was an inconvience for her. Even said here and passed the phone off to a guy as she said someone had come to her line. He finally gets on the line and is no better at helping with an I don't care I have better things to do attitude. But, he finally answers my question . So I decide to order . He starts demanding a time I would pick up the order & rushes off the phone. Picking up the food was no better . Same snot nose attitudes. If this is how u treat new customers then u definitely need new employees. Or maybe a lesson in how to treat customers with respect. As customers are the ones that keep ur business open. Food was ok. Nothing great about it. I could've gotten better service elsewhere but wanted to help out a small business. Lesson learned.
Update: Spoke with the owners and they made things right. ( Huge respect to them for that. )

This was my first time eating at this restaurant. I ordered the Rachel Ruben half sandwich. I got my order to go when I took it outside to open it to share with my family. I didn’t know it was a warm sandwich. (I was thinking it was cold) the sandwich was DELICIOUS. Super elevated and amazing. I had Java chip frappe and I enjoy it too.
Added new picture of one I got with no coleslaw.
