Review for Juan’s Mexican Restaurant

This used to be one of my favorite spots — good food, good atmosphere. But over the past year, the quality has completely dropped off. My takeout orders are wrong almost every time, and after my most recent dine-in experience, I won’t be coming back.

When my husband and I arrived, no one greeted or seated us for nearly 10 minutes. Once we finally got a table, chips were tossed down without even asking if we wanted drinks. Another 10 minutes went by before our simple drink order (a beer and a Sprite) arrived — in a dirty cup.

I ordered fajitas with a side of beans and cheese dip. The food came out, but the waitress rushed off without checking if we needed anything. My drink sat empty, and I waited 15–20 minutes before flagging her down about the missing cheese dip and beans. She denied I had ordered them until suddenly “remembering,” and then admitted they “didn’t have beans today.” Minutes later, she dropped off a cold bowl of beans that looked like they’d been passed off from another table — absolutely disgusting. On top of that, my tortillas were smeared with sour cream, and the rice (which I didn’t even order) looked and tasted awful.

Between the lack of service, the hygiene issues, and the complete disregard for customers, this place has gone downhill fast. I used to recommend Juan’s, but now I’d say save your time and money — there are far better Mexican restaurants in town.

Prices outrageous 7.50 for 2 sodas, 6.50 for not even 3 ounces of queso, 5 dollars for legitimately just rice. I'm surprised we weren't charged for the silverware. Shame on you people for thinking it's okay to charge Gloucester families these prices.

We visit often. Food is always on point, service is great. The restaurant is very clean and the employees are very helpful!

This used to be an okay place. Now it’s no bueno. We came in for dinner. Had to find a server. Never got chip or salsa. We decided if this is what we’re getting and we haven’t ordered food, maybe it was better to move on. We will not be coming back.

Great experience on Taco Tuesday! Our server Hayesha (sp?) was great. Personable and attentive with a genuine smile. I had the Enchilades Rancheras, one of the best I've had in a Tex-Mex restaurant. Spouse had the spinach quesadilla that was packed with spinach. The guac was exceptional. You can't beat $3.50 margs on Tuesdays either.

Juan has unfortunately decided to focus on his other locations in the surrounding counties and Gloucester has suffered for this decision. While it's probably a net gain so it's understandable it's still frustrating to see the location that allowed him to soar to such heights. No wait for a table 7 days a week compared to just 3-4 years ago when it almost felt like you needed a reservation weeks ahead of time. I have had some of the best memories of my life here but it's no longer that place.
