I set course for Grilled Cheese Mania when I was about 80 miles away and looked ahead to see what vegan-friendly spots may be good to stop at in Harrisonburg, and I thought that this place seemed like it’d be tasty.
It’s awesome that they do offer vegan options with vegan cheese and butter, but I was underwhelmed by the sandwich. I at least was reassured that I indeed get the vegan version…by the fact that the cheese wasn’t really melted, as grilled cheese is supposed to be. But I know that the vegan cheese that they say they use DOES melt. So this really just needed to have been cooked longer, and the bread didn’t really have that yummy grilled quality (it looks in the pic like it did more than it did), either. It was fine, but…they really could have done much better.
Also, at one point I noticed a couple small pieces of egg in it, making me wonder if I ate any other pieces in this vegan grilled cheese sandwich. 🤦🏻♂️
When I had been looking at the menu earlier, I noticed on their site that they tout various extras/toppings to add, but as the woman was taking my order and about to wrap it up, I asked about extras, and she seemed to not know what I meant. (I then asked about adding mushrooms and avocado and she added it to the order.)
Now, this was about 15 minutes before they’d be closing, so maybe they were rushing…? I just found it to be quite underwhelming and think they should do much better.

The food here is phenomenal and has become a place I enjoy going to. Kathleen, the owner is a sweetheart and has good relationships with all of the customers that come in. Since the first time I came I have been thinking about her grilled cheeses. Definitely a place to visit when you can!

Tried it for the first time, and loved it! Feels like you are sitting in your own kitchen eating a grilled cheese you just made. Well worth the try. My whole family loved it.

Oh boy, where do i even start! I asked for a grilled cheese, and they brought it for me, but guess what? The workers stripped me naked and poured cheese all over me! It was the time of my life! Though, a small issue is that the cheese burnt my Willy. It’s fine though, they gave me a bag of hair scooped up from the floor of Venus barbershop! I’d come back a thousand times if it meant I could experience this again! Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Very friend down to earth people and food was amazing
My wife and I are from out of town and visited this cute little shop with my MIL. The food was absolutely phenomenal and all the staff were super friendly. If you're in the area, I highly recommend to try the food here. The Maniac is a behemoth of a sandwich!

This place is the coziest and most comforting food establishment I’ve ever been to. Everything it advertises to be, it is - and more.
The staff have always been kind and Kathleen, the owner, is a breath of fresh air of a human. You can tell two things for sure: 1. So much heart went into this place 2. The people that are working there love being there and are treated with respect and kindness.
Now let’s get to the food -
Well if I could afford to eat there every day I would, but I’m not as slim as I used to be. That being said, I still somehow feel healthy after eating here despite it being grilled cheese. I so often feel heavy after eating, but this “simple comfort food” as they put it makes me feel perfectly content.
Also try the Ava Mix and a cookie…. The combo is unmatched.
I have so much love for this establishment. One day I’ll introduce myself to the owner and thank her in person!
